Bilateral Tinnitus

Rate this question

praned1983

Question

Has any body ever got a bilateral factor for 10% tinnitus. I just got my hearing test done and I look on myhealth.va.gov and notice he add in the report that I had bilateral tinnitus from years of ringing in the ears. I been back from Afghanistan 4 years now and I was thinking the ringing was normal but an veteran friend of mine told me about it so now I could possible be rated at a minimal of 80%. I wish I knew about this 4 years ago. Any body got any ideas.

So know my disabilities look like this current

Total Combined Disability

You have a 70% final degree of disability. This percentage determines the amount of benefit pay you will receive.

I believe tinnitus is a single 10% rating and as such the bilateral factor does not apply?

Well that sucks if it did that would get me 76% disabilities if it single that is 72% but I got like 32 pending issues I gave the va to look at that I can possibly get about 12 of them to be SC or secondary to my Sleep Apnea, PTSD, Flat Feet, or GERDs.

Green is correct. Tinnitus is a single 10% non-bilateral rating.

http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?rgn=div5;node=38:1.0.1.1.5#se38.1.4_187

Quote
6260   Tinnitus, recurrent 10
Note (1): A separate evaluation for tinnitus may be combined with an evaluation under diagnostic codes 6100, 6200, 6204, or other diagnostic code, except when tinnitus supports an evaluation under one of those diagnostic codes.
Note (2): Assign only a single evaluation for recurrent tinnitus, whether the sound is perceived in one ear, both ears, or in the head.
Note (3): Do not evaluate objective tinnitus (in which the sound is audible to other people and has a definable cause that may or may not be pathologic) under this diagnostic code, but evaluate it as part of any underlying condition causing it.

There are other ear-related disabilities, like Meniere's syndrome, which may also involve tinnitus and result in higher ratings.

Yep, good ol' Fort Living room. That takes me back to my basic training days. Someone does something stupid and the drill sgt's would yell, "Where do you think you are? Fort Living Room?"

I'm in the Birmingham area. I don't make it to Huntsville as often as I would like. They do have a decent commissary on Redstone Arsenal.
