Has any one tried to get a service connected for trichloroethylene exposure.

I have Castleman's disease a very rare auto immune disease.

Fibromyalgia a central nervous system disorder.

Sleep Apnea.

Restless Leg Syndrome.

in march i had a heart attack and 5 way bypass

am trying to get them to check me for sjogren's syndrome as i have the symptoms of it.

Used trichloroethylene cleaning solvent on almost a daily bases as a electrician's mate in the navy. 1970-74

It is now baned by the gov. because of it's health effects.

Many of the effects are of the same as my health problems.

Central nervous system damage.

Auto immune disorders.

Tricloroethylene has also been linked to parkinson's disease. and cancers.

In Nov i filed for service connected. i have been on non SC disability from Nov of 04.

You need to get a strong IMO from your doctor. When he writes his opinion, have him use the medical litrature that's out there in the medical community to support his rational as to why he thinks your medical problems are related to your exposure to the chemical. This should help your claim immensely.

Also you'll need to submit some kind of proof that you used this chemical while in the Navy. The simple fact that your MOS was known to expose personnel to this stuff may be enough, but I don't know for sure. There are lists of MOS's that the VA has that show the different types of chemicals that were associated with those different jobs.

The Navy had NEC (Navy Enlisted Classification Code) and not mos.

Almost all electricians mates, electronics tech.'s (EM's ET's), aviation electrician mates, aviation electronics tech.'s, and aviation fire control tech.'s (AE's AT's and AQ's), frequently used and worked with Trichloroethylene, MEK, CRC and numerous other chemicals that are illegal now. Toxic Chemical exposures are synonymous with Navy electrical and electronic NEC's.

I do not know how any one toxic chemical could be separated from the others, but I have read that this is possible. Example Asbestos = COPD and/or Mesotheleoma.

All of the Navy Toxic Chemicals, seem to have the same cause and effect.

Vike is right- a good IMO with references to updated literature showing the link of this exposure to your disability will help this claim.

Plus proof of proven exposure in your service records.

At the BVA there are many claims for trichloroethylene associations to disability-

I was exposed to this while in th AF. I have some of the same problems.

The Coast Guard lists P-D-680 as a somewhat toxic air pollutant. It's a mineral spirit cleaner.

DoD is replacing it with other solvents.

What i remember was 5 gal od green cans with the label trichloroethylene cleaning solvent.

This product has had many names outside the gov.

As for proving that i used this chemical that may be easy as i have the email addy of a few of the guys i served with.

why was castleman's service connected is the VA not telling me something.

For a disorder that is so rare [ About 80 new cases DXed in the US per year as per castleman's disease.org] i have found over 10 vets with castleman's. this is a high number.

The Doctor that i go to at the VA is treating 5 people with castleman's and that is just one VA hospital.

About 30% of the people with castleman's also have fibromyalgia. to show the fibro is service connected i am linking it to castleman's as a secondary disorder

As for the doctors linking the castleman's to any thing all the va doctors at the va i go to will not ansure any questions like that. I know I have asked many times. most of the doctor at the VA that i go to have never even heard of castleman's much less know what might cause it.

What i have heard is that some VA hospitals have told there doctors not to link disorders to any cause unless they are trained in environmental medicine. AND YOU WILL NEVER GET SENT TO THEM.
