MST/PTSD Inpatient Programs

Rate this question

Question

I was trying to get any first hand knowledge concerning MST/PTSD residential programs that accept men. If anyone reading this forum has been to any inpatient mens programs anywhere in the country I would greatly appreciate your experiences. I would like to know about any facilities good or bad. Also, was it a walk in or did you have to get a referral to go there??

Any help will be much appreciated!! Hopefully some of you have been to some good facilities...

If you are a Victim to MST, its better if you tell your VA PCP about it   he/she will refer you to the VA MH Clinic for evaluation, and you tell your story to the MST Coordinator   not all but in part of what happen, there should be records on file of this reported horrific event, if no records or markers  then it will be double hard to prove your claim  but you certainly could still have a valid claim  its just harder to prove with no records.

Hey Buck,

Thanks for the reply.. I actually haven't even tried to use the VA MST coordinator but I have good and bad things when it comes to utilizing the VA for MST issues. As far as the markers and such, my claim has already been processed and approved. I have gone to a couple MST programs but they were privately owned.

Ive been in a bad way these last 2 months and i feel like i really need some residential safe and comfortable time. But just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to respond to my questuio

Chrisp4995 -  Inpatient is not always required, for a therapeutic outcome or resolution to some issues.

I was in a pretty low place and successfully utilized the PTSD/MST coordinator- Psychologist  and it helped tremendously. He has an open door policy - I just call and can get in anytime needed. It did take 14 weeks to complete the outpatient CPT program - weekly visits. - then assigned to peer groups setting which is very beneficial for ongoing support-

In fact - I would counter working on therapy in my own environment using the tools he gave me helped more.

My life continued on.......yes I struggle with symptomatology but I am at home.

I worked at a VA WACO, TX  inpatient psychiatric unit  - as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. - first hand knowledge.

Message me if you have a specific question in mind.

Good or bad - if I had to answer that one is - the restrictive environment is not much fun... also the other ppl behaviors - I am not cannot recall if it is a dorm situation, but no private rooms.... or heads..... this is just WACO - not one of the newer inpatient facilities.

Check out non-profits too .

PTSD Foundation has resources.
