Stressor verification

Rate this question

Phild523

Question

I was just wondering when stressors for ptsd are verified? I was told they were done before the cp exam and have also been told they are done after before it goes to the rater. Just was wondering and thought it would be useful information for persons new to the process. Thank you.

You wont be getting a c and p exam if there is no stressor..you will get a denial because, absent the stressor, the c and p exam is meaningless.

The VA, to save money, does not do c and p exams when there is no chance of substantiating the claim.

Stressors do not "always" have to be verified.  For example, with combat Vets the stressor is presumed if you were in active combat.

If your VA doc diagnosis you with PTSD, then there is a great chance HE thinks you had a stressor.  Of course, its possible to get PTSD having never been in the military.  "War" isnt the only thing to cause PTSD.

Please enlighten us as to why you would want to know "when" the stressor was verified?  The order in which VA processes your claim isnt all that relevant.

I agree with Broncovet....if a vet has the PH, CIB, or CAR on their DD 214 the VA willconcede the stressor-

but without that VA will attempt to get a verification from JSRRC- if they have enough info from the veteran to narrow the date, place, etc. down.

Some vets fail to provide the VA with sufficient evidence of a potential stressor, and in that case, the VA would not order a C & P exam to be done. There are other ways to verify a stressor -I gave an article here on Buddy statements and what is and isn't a stressor.

Buddy statements are an eye witness account from a buddy, same unit, same time and place  you served , who can give a detailed account of the stressor and put you on the scene.

They should get their signature Notarized, free at most banks, but they dont have to do that,  and also they need to give the VA their contact info.

Some vets I know and here over the years were told JSRRC could not verify their stressor, but when they wrote to JSRRC they did get the stressor verified.
