Welcome to Hadit!

That's the new system that went into effect early last year. Before the changes, your claim would live at a single VARO, even if the facility was heavily backlogged. There was no way to get the excess claims over to other VAROs that were nowhere nearly as busy. Now, each step of your claim can be picked up and worked by any VARO. They work their step and put it back in the NWQ if necessary. I have some current activity and was told that once a decision was made, the same VARO would perform the final review and approval, but I don't know if this is 100% accurate.

Think of it as a team effort. When someone with a specific role has bandwidth, they pick up the next claim from the NWQ in-box.

Good answer by Vync.  Since you are at WPAFB your RO is probably Cleveland, and you are better off at almost any other VARO, IMHO.  You simply need to wait and watch for VA letters asking for a c and p exam, make sure your address is up to date as well as deposit information.  About 80 percent of first time claimants have to appeal.  Lets hope you are in that 20 percent.
