Spinal Injury..new post..

Rate this question

Carpool

Question

Old posts, but it's been resurrected now.  hahaha

I do not support harming another Veteran.  However, I also do not support those who lie to get ratings.

When I was injured, my parents listened to a older friend who was 100%.  He kept telling them I was getting a big check from the VA when in reality I was only awarded two 10% ratings, carried over from the Medical Board.  That carry-over mistake prevented me from applying for TDIU and started the decade-long fight.  I knew my spinal injury was not a 100% injury, but it sure wasn't a 10% either.  Finally about 8 years into the VA appeal process, I had it with all the crap from people around me who assumed I was getting all this money from the VA.  People only saw me on good days, because on bad days I couldn't move, much less get out and visit.  My parents were stunned when I told them that what I get from the VA is deducted from my retirement.  But that's not really any of their business anyway.  That their friend's check (rating) was more likely based on him having cancer, not cause he sprained an ankle and arm in a chopper landing and had a few other minor old-age things.  They really got the point when I mentioned that he worked in construction for 30 years AFTER that landing, so his ankle and arm must have been ok.  My aunt was one of the worst, saying how a in-law niece gets this and that and there's nothing wrong with the niece, not so much as a stubbed toe.  I couldn't say that her thing may have been sexual trauma.....that's her story to tell or not.  I just felt bad that she has to listen to all the jabs and maybe doesn't want everyone to know her situation.

My point is that everyone's story is different.  And how that story affects us may be different.  You don't know til you live with the person and see them on goods days and bad.

I'm crippled with a spinal injury, walk with a cane, facing a wheelchair due to nerve damage, have about 14 other injuries from on duty, in the MTRs (not football games or MC accidents) and am still fighting for FAIR ratings after 10 years.  Spinal injury should be a 40-60%.  Some are a FAIR 20%, 10%, or even 0%, but should be SC'd.  How do I know this?  The VASRD.  It is very easy to understand where you rate.  Work is out unless I can employ myself and work at my pace and limitations, but it will never amount to making a living.  Shoot, even SSA job vocational specialist could not place me in a position and immediately approved SSDI.  I just keep trying to get the VA to recognize that for consideration.

But that doesn't mean I need to turn in the guys who twirling a cane like Fred Astaire walking through the VA parking lot then hobbling when he nears the door, asking for a wheel chair.  I feel sorry for them, lacking the conscious to be honest and honorable.

Just remember that we have a common interest that those who didn't serve can't understand.  Yes, that includes the majority of the VA employees..... who think they understand.  hahaha  again

I think you are missing the point CUE. I, Tbird, or the volunteer Mod's just don't have the time to look into 26 years of post's. This site is run by a limited no of people who volunteer who love to help other vets because I suspect like you and me have been trying to get the VA to give them there benefits. I think when we find them the thread should be closed to any further post and the new question should be moved to a new post as broncovet did.

Ok I am going to leave it alone.

Tbird you need to address the closing of old post. So now the site is running by a few ppl opinion on VA benefits.

An they have to review old post

This is how most of the ppl you are talk about got educated posting in the old post  thread and get info.

An last  there aren't any accredited agents on hadit  so everyone is post there opinions.

An trying to  help veterans

Well that is the way it use to be before all this new stuff .

Now veterans can vent about the VA.

Lot of new rules.

I probably get ban  for this post lol  I don't understand what's going on here lately

Mr Cue

What @Rattler767points out is true. No one is saying that folks can't read old posts, just old posts don't allow new posts.

Here is an example

Say there is a post on tinnitus and there are about 15 replies. The original post was made in 2009, now if someone wants to read through that they can, but they should post a new topic, because the replies are old and probably will contain outdated material.

The new topic will get more views and folks don't have to read through years old posts to re`ply to the poster.

I don't see what you are so mad about. Folks can still read old posts, they would just need to start a new post if the last reply was say over three years ago or something.

You also have to understand that running the site is labor intensive and we don't have a large staff. Most of the administrative work is done by me.

Ok I will bite on this one time QUE.

I don't see any changes on the site other than there are more people to enforce the rules.

I and others understand sometimes you have to tell the story so others can figure out how to help. The problem is when someone post the same kind of rambling stuff 2 or more times in a thread no one wants to read through it. Not new or old to the site.

The Guidelines are easy to find and they haven't changed. The may need to be reformatted to make them easier to read.

There is a search bar next to the notifications at the top right of the page next to the notification bell and mail. You can search by member or a number of topics.

Advice given on the forum is in no way a substitute for consulting with a competent Veterans law firm, such as one (you pick your favorite) on the NOVA advocate website.

 https://www.vetadvocates.org/directory/widget_search?current_page=1&sort_type=featured&filter={"additional_info.show-profile-on-sustaining-membership-directory"%3A+"yes"}&asset_type=company_user&display_type=default

If you already have retained a law firm, then you should follow that law firms advice instead of hadit members advice.  ONE REASON:

Many law firms have access to your VBMS file, while hadit members do not.  Your law firm may well know about issues which are relevant to your case, while hadit posters often do not have that information.

Of course, your law firm will not only have access to your VBMS file, but they also have professional training and experience, while hadit members (unless other wise posted) have neither legal training nor a law degree.

CONTROVERSIAL ADVICE:  Often there are choices that Veterans make which are a "coin toss" where both options could produce similar results.   These are things like, "should I file an HLR or go directly to the BVA".  One Veteran may do well with a HLR, while others suggest going directly to the BVA.

We will never KNOWINGLY suggest to a Veteran that he or she commit any type of  fraud, nor will we knowingly recommend a Veteran violate one or more laws to obtain benefits.  Laws vary with different states and or cities, so you should always consult with a professional if in doubt.

Further, since we are uncompensated volunteers, each Veteran should understand that posters are not accepting any type of liability for any of the advice given.

This is a moderated forum with rules please adhere to them or it will necessitate the deletion of your account. Anything a Moderator find to be erroneous is subject to review and deletion.

Everyone won't agree on many things, but the one thing we should agree on is that we are here so that no brother or sister veteran gets left behind, not on a jungle trail, not on a desert trail and not on a paper trail." Tbird

The biggest component of HadIt.com to help veterans is our very active discussion forum. Over 22000 (as of April 2022) registered users, with an average of about 200 posts per day. New Registrations average about 200 members per month.

Please note that the discussion forum is made up of veterans just like you, they come to HadIt.com and its discussion forum from all over the world. Some come to ask questions, some come to help do research for other vets, some to answer questions, others come for the sense of community that HadIt.com provides and still others come just to provide an ear and shoulder to those veterans who have become weary.

There are some folks who for whatever reason sign on to discussion forums to cause disruption. We have put measures in place to limit this behavior. However, we still have this problem the best advice is ignore them; they want a fight, a response, don't give it to them. We have an ignore user feature, you can look up any member by name and click to ignore them.

New members posts are moderated and not visible to all members until the staff can review a few posts to make sure it is not a spammer, troll or some other divisive individual.

HadIt.com's discussion forum is "User Friendly" as long as posters do not cause division. We are not into censorship. We simply need to set forth some guidelines. These are aimed at maintaining harmony on the Web Forum.. When one person disrupts many then we feel it's time to take action.

I know you are anxious to jump into the forum, but these tips will help you get to it a lot faster.

Our Home Page has articles that may answer your question. Use the search box at the top of the page to find answers faster.

Do not give advice contrary to the law. Such as lying to VA or SSA or working under the table for cash in order to hide your employment status from government agencies. Such postings will be deleted, further posting will result in a ban from the forum.

1. Post a clear title like 'Need help preparing PTSD claim' or "VA med center won't schedule my surgery" instead of 'I have a question'.

Knowledgeable people who don't have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn't clear in the title.

I don't read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

2. Use paragraphs instead of one huge, rambling introduction or story.

Again - You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

Leading to:

3. Post clear questions and then give background info on them.

Example is:

A. I was previously denied for apnea - Should I refile a claim?

I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine but claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?

I was involved in traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

I am closing this thread as it is going no where.
