Tongue Cancer

Rate this question

joseph Bruno

Question

I reapplied for compensation for base of Tongue Cancer. Due to the PACT act I do qualify and received a letter that the government accepts responsibility. I have traveled to Saudi, UAE, Kuwait, Oman in the 90's and 2000's.

On Jan 22, 2024 I will be going to a Medical exam by QTC a contractor. My question is there any key words that would help my rating? I'm 62 years old.  Currently Im at 10% for Tinnitus. My cancer was diagnosed in 2007.  I was also rejected benefits in 2017 when I applied.

Keywords? No, not really. If you have access to your Capri records (VAMC- you can download from MyHealthVet or VA.Gov) and/or some of your service records you can type up a brief synopsis of dates, places, and exposures, along with any key medical facts like date of original Dx, etc. The examiners generally don't accept information handed to them, and all of the above should already be in what was transmitted to them, anyway. Still, it will help you keep your answer to whatever questions they ask you on task and accurate with less rambling and trying to remember things, especially if you get flustered during exams.

(I AM NOT A RATER- I work the claims BEFORE they are rated, annotating medical evidence in your records, VA and Legal documents,  and DA/DD forms- basically a paralegal/vso/etc except that I also evaluate your records based on Caluza and try to justify and schedule the exams that you go to based on whether or not your records have enough in them to warrant those)

I tell vets when they go to the doc, know what to say when the doc asks "how are you?"

Probably dont answer the proverbial "fine", if you are NOT FINE.  You will be backpedalling the whole exam.

What to do instead.  Tell the doc how you feel ON YOUR WORST DAY.

Example (Do not use my example):

   How are you Veteran?

You:  Better Today.  Tuesday, my wife had to take me to the ER, as I could not breathe.  My tongue was swollen up and I was in a panic and I thought I was gonna die..........

Describe your symptoms on your worst day, not your best day.
