  1. JT24usn: you may be right. I think the word they used was "sensitive". I did carry a Top Secret clearance while active. And they both said security clearance level was a pssbility. But, they should be able to explain why this change in access has taken place. I have been out of the service since 1997.

  2. I went to my County Clerks Office to get my Disability Placard. I asked if there was a discount for Disabled Veterans. I was asked for my 100% P&T Letter. I walked down the sidewalk to request a copy. Was advised they could call for me to get on the phone and request a copy of my Disability Letter be faxed while I wait. So, I get on the phone and the gentleman advises me that my record is "secured" and he can't assist me. I ask why. He states he doesn't know; maybe if I was a POW, had a security clearance. He transfers me. I'm asked the same question, and I ask why is my record "flagged". Same answer. So she gets my basic information: name, social, address. And faxes me my letter.

    SO WHY AM I "FLAGGED"?

Phones extremely busy today. I will be calling Monday morning.

Any thoughts? Anyone experience the same when calling the Veterans Administration 800 number?

  3. EBenefits shows compensation claim complete for GWI. But, doesn't show disability percentage when I try to see in list of disabilities. Got a funny feeling they've denied me again for GWI PRESUMPTIVE illnesses. 2 year dependency claim still awaiting Decision Approval. I want this stage of my life over so that I can move on with healing! But I do believe I meet criteria for Gulf War Illnesses. We will see, I have a call in to "Peggy". Hopefully she will have good news!

  4. So true. I am noticing an increase in Thyroid issues and Thyroid Cancer in Gulf War/Afghanistan War Veterans. Once you're diagnosed with PTSD/MDD, they try to lump all your complaints, signs and symptoms into it: Insomnia, nerve pain, muscle/body aches, constipation, heart palpitations, piercing pains in head, fainting spells, unexplained weight loss, Metarsalgia/Plantar Fasciatis, Tinnitus, feet imbalance................... I mean the Raters not the doctors. Doctors treat individual complaints. They've forgotten about VA PACT Plan for veterans medical and mental care.

Whew, I got carried away! LOL

  5. You can always apply for an increase based on worsened mental health condition. Then it will be based on your medical records and C&P examiners opinion as to wether or not your mental condition has worsened AND to what extent, 50, 70, 100% or remains the same or has improved. It's your judgement call unless your psychiatrists has advised you that your condition has or is worsening.

I don't understand how you can be medically retired for "mental illness, permanent" at only 30% and not 100% permanent and total. I received 50% initially for PTSD and was recently awarded 100% Permanent and Total increase for PTSD alone. So you can be increased. But, again, you say you was medically retired from the Air Force in 2007 for "permanent mental illness" at only 30%. That is not VA's math for permanent disability. Maybe we could better understand if you post your discharge with your personal information blacked out of course.

    Best wishes!

  6. I was denied SSD first before PTSD disability approval, second after 50% for PTSD (70%total with other disabilities at reconsideration. I am now 100% P&T for PTSD with SMC for additional disabilities. I am in a two phase cycle with SSD at this moment: awaiting hearing date, but also awaiting decision on On The Review Request. Attorney says this OTR Request is currently with the judge, who can make a decision based on my current record, in lieu of a hearing. NOTE: A negative decision does not affect my position in line for a hearing, but a positive decision expedites my claim.

Just a word of knowledge through researching VA and SSD claims. I've learned to research, research, research and apply what I learn from my fellow veterans here at hadit.com!

I should hear something real soon and I pray PTSD P&T is enough for a positive decision with their assigned Onset Date of March 2010.
