  1. To get sc for your hypertension asecondary to you IHD you need a nexus connecting the hypertension to you IHD. Where you may run into a problem is that hypertension usually proceeds IHD.

Ihad orders to that radar site in '71 but they got canceled due to my father being in Vietnam, instead they sent to Korat Thailand where I worked on the perimeter where I was exposed to AO.

All of these ruling and procedures are very confusing and very difficult to understand.

My IHD disease had been in place since 2001 and Hypertension occurred long after that so do not know if that provides the "Nexus" that seems to be required. Anyway Hypertension was not on my list when I submitted my first claim in Oct 2010 but I mailed it today to include it since they have not ruled on anything except the IHD.

I have been unable to obtain any military heath records after requesting them three times. Each time Military Records Managment state that the VA has them and the VA says they do not have them. It appears that someone is hiding them as I sure can't get them.

Many thanks to all of you on this forum for providing information.

  2. I had three stents total. One of the stents failed twice and they had to do a procedure called brachytherapy which provides radiation to stent area to kill scar tissue. All of this was done in 2001. I filed in October 2010 and was finally approved in July 2012 for 30%. They have not ruled on any of my other issues since they are not on the list for AO. I was stationed at a Radar Site at Monkey Mountain near Da Nang.

    Good luck on your claim.

  3. I hope I have posted this question in the proper location and provided enough information to get an answer to this question.

I am rated 30% disability and receiving benefits for IHD (CAD) with stents and brachytherapy for Agent Orange from serving in Vietnam. Now I have been diagnosed with Hypertension. Will this qualify as a condition to CAD, secondary to Agent Orange or not.

    Thank You

  4. I hope this is the correct place to post these three questions.

    1. How long does it take to get Dependent Status to be added to the Claim. I filed form 21-686c on July 23, 2012 and have not heard anything?

    2. How do I know if they have received the filed form 21-686c?

    3. Is there a phone number you can call to be sure?

Other Facts to Share with the Forum that might help others:

First filed for CAD in Oct 2010 and Waived military retirement for VA disabilty.

Signed up for Fast Track. No action on my claim so I called them in Feb 2012 in an attempt to get it moving.

Approved for 10% CAD for Agent Orange in March 2012, approved back to August 2010. Got first check from VA in April 2012 .

Had C&P exam at VA in April 2012.

Approved for 30% CAD for Agent Orange in July 2012 back to August 2010 and got increase in VA check in August 2012

Approved for CRSC in late August 2012 back to September 1, 2010, receive first monthly check from CRSC on Oct 1, 2012.

Called CRSC today and advised will receive check from CRSC in about two weeks and from VA Audit in about 60 days for back pay to 2010.

I was advised by the VA that my other claims for ailments not on AO list was just sent forward two weeks ago. My guess they will be disaaproved since not connected to AO and unable to obtain any military records. We will see.

I did all of this on my own except for asking some questions on this forum and doing some reading. I thank all of you for your help.

  5. I received a letter today Randolph AFB, TX approving CRSC payment, effective date 1 Sep 2010 for origin code AO.

Does this mean that they will go back to Sep 1, 2010 and provide payment to current date?

Does it mean that the previous amount that was awarded by waiving retirement pay that I have filed amended returns for taxes paid will now have to be returned?

In addition I just had another heart issue pop up this week that required another heart cath and reveals two new blockages. One of the blockages is 10% from requiring open heart surgery. Guess I will need to obtains those records and appeal my previous award of 30%. By appealing does that open the case and allow them to reduce the previous award?

Thanks to all that have helped me on my claim.

  6. I did check into CRSC and it appears that I do qualify for CRSC since it is an AO condition rated at 30%. I completed the form 2860 today with the necessary documention and mailed it. The 30% was awarded back to Aug 2010. What will happen next as to payment date. Will it go back to Aug 2010 or from the date of filing form 2860 or what?

Thank You so much for pointed out CRSC to me.

    Ken

  7. I can't answer your question about waived retirement but congrats on winning. From your description I wonder if the 50% may be low

My award is 30% and Pancreatic Cancer has not been considered; only CAD.

  8. Filed first time ever in Oct 2010 from Agent Orange (Vietnam 1970-71) with CAD since 2001, Multiple Stents, Brachytherapy and Pancreatic Cancer (2005) and other non-AO ailments. My current age is 74. No outside representation on my part. By Feb 2012 received no input from VA so I called them. I was awarded 10% in April 2012 (not final) and provided them some more current medical records. Met with VA Doctor in April 2012 with exam and Heart scan. They do not want to talk about Pancreatic Cancer and other ailments, only CAD. Received another letter from VA on Friday giving me 30% back to Aug 2010. When initially filing, I waved my retirement so am receiving two checks, one from military, one from VA. I also filed for an increase for my wife since the award was based on being single so that amount has not been included. I have been unable to obtain any military records but have now found another address so filed for them today. They have not addressed any other ailments but guess I can't prove service connected.

Please correct me but if I get to 50% can I request to have my waved retirement re-instated? What do I get at 30% other than the tax saving? What else can I do other than file amended tax returns? What have I forgotten to do?

    Thanks

    Ken

  9. Wow, JustPLS. I can see I have some reading and studying this situation to make the right selection. I have no idea what my rating will be prior to submission of the claim forms and it seems like an unfair VA question to ask someone not knowing the results. Maybe someone else will relate their experience filling out this form.

I really appreciate your input and I have googled both CRSC and CRDP and will study them. Thank you so much.

  10. I am applying under the Agent Orange change criteria for "Coronary Artery Disease" and "Pancreatic Cancer" with the associated Whipple surgery, plus other medical problems not on the Agent Orange list. I was stationed in Vietnam during the period 1970 to 1971. I am retired USAF (20 years) since since 1974 and am receiving Military Retired Pay. I was told to fill out VA Form 21-526EZ and I am having trouble answering Question 18 and am unable to find the correct answer for my situation. I just do not fully understand the question and what will happen to the choice I select. I have never filed any VA claim in the past and have no previous VA number. I have medical records to support my illnesses and have completed all of the necessary forms including Consent to Release Medical information from my Doctor's. I need this answer to be able to file the form.

If I do not check the box what could happen?

If I do check the block what could happen?

If you make the wrong selection, can it be changed?

Would someone be so kind as to explain the proceedure with maybe an example, each way so I can make the correct selection. I would appreciate all the help you could give for my situation.

    Thank You

Listed below is Question 18 on the form.

IMPORTANT: Unless you check the box in Item 18 below, you are telling us that you are choosing to receive VA compensation instead of military retired pay, if it is determined you are entitled to both benefits. If you are awarded military retired pay prior to compensation, we will reduce you retired pay by that amount, VA will notify the Military Pay Center of all benefit changes.

If you receive both military retired pay and VA compensation, some of the amount you get may be recouped by VA , or, in the case of Voluntary Separation Incentive (VSI), by the Department of Defense.

    18. ____ No, I do not want VA compensation in lieu of military retired pay.
