Anyone Awarded Sc To Jet Fuel?

Question

Hey anybody,

I'm in the appeals process trying to show a connection to 4 years of servicing aircraft from 1977-81. The old A-7 Corsairs were being phased out to make room for the A-10 Warthogs. I had plenty of exposure to JP-4 daily.I filed my claim on the VA website in 2004. Seems like that was a big mistake as the VA has got all the facts screwed up and flatly denies everything. Finally decided to get a Rep. My Rep wants me to show a direct link between JP-4 and non-hodgkins lymphoma. I'm not finding any studies on the net that come right out and make that link, but there is benzene in the fuel and plenty of lawyers who chase benzene cases. The few I've contacted can't or won't deal with the VA. Even though they say I may have a good case based on symptoms and diagnoses and latency period.

In 1981 honorably discharged.

1993 lesion removed from the scalp ( lymphoma)

1995-97 several more lesions on scalp removed

1998-99 multiple lesions on the scalp, bone marrow biopsy ,radiation treatment ,migraines, cunvulsions

2001 brain tumor removed

2005 lesion in scalp requiring softball sized skin graft and artery transplant, undefined deterioration of the skull. titanium in my head

2007 lesion removed.

I'm running out of places for the docs to cut on and feel that I'm getting nowhere.

Losing control of this page ...ignorance overwhelming!

Any advice any one? Thanks for reading this!

We had a recent discussion on fuel exposures here and some BVA awards.

Put JP 4 or fuel exposures into the hadit search feature if you cant find that recent discussion.

When a veteran can prove direct exposure to, as well as identify the fuel (s) , they were exposed to in service and if the veteran can get a strong Independent Medical opinion that gives a full medical rationale for the linkage from their service MOS and duties regarding the specific fuel or other fuels , to their current disability, they can attain service connection for it.

IMos are costly but I have found this seems the only way to get these types of claims awarded...assuming of course that there is sound scientific and medical evidence of the medical nexus ,that a doctor can expand on.

I did research on this subject for a member here years ago....there are plenty of disabilities fuel exposures can cause.

That research would be probably more advanced today.

It pays to research the net all you can on potential disabilities caused by inservice fuels but VA only cares if a real doctor,in an IMO , uses medical thesis and abstracts and then gives a full medical rationale as to why your disability is due to inservice use or exposures to fuels.

We have the IMO criteria here in our IMO forum.

Dont forget the key wording Carlie added to my IMO post there.

GRADUATE ! Nov 2nd 2007 American Military University !

When thousands of Americans faced annihilation in the 1800s Chief

Osceola's response to his people, the Seminoles, was

simply "They(the US Army)have guns, but so do we."

Sameo to us -They (VA) have 38 CFR ,38 USC, and M21-1- but so do we.

Retiredat44,

My dad contracted leukemia right after he was discharged from the military and died in 1961. He worked with JP-4 and other toxic substances as a re-fueler of Nike Ajax missiles. Trying to get my mom benefits. Wondered if you ever found any connection of JP-4 to cancer? (i know the benzene link)I studied a lot of reports.. and wondered if you could connect me to the guy you mention in this old post -- "specialist: doctor who does IMO's for these specialist studies, and who has worked within the VA and is familiar with the needed documents) (chemicals and illness for people in petroleum industries) who sent me a very detailed report with references"

Thanks.

I was severely impacted by illness from petro products on active duty, and had to be removed from contact, by doctors orders on active duty, yet the va is fighting me... I expect the appeals will get me the granted disability claims for the petro chemicals and illnesses I suffer. But, the va will continue to deny my claims until they go through appeals. They just refuse to grant me before the appeals process. I just need them to grant me while I am still alive, the scumbags.

Not in appeals, since I got 100%, and some of it was winning an 1151 negligence, which the VA turns out does not give ful benefits if you win 1151 negligence they squirm and legal loophhole you and your family out of many benefits, really crapp nasty bunch running the va benefits, they wil backstab and scre wyou even if you win you lose. It has been a while since I have posted and it makes me worry that maybe I haven't looked enough into potential further damage caused to me even passed my peripheral neuropathy. I was awarded 50% in 2010 for a claim filed in 1999. They only went back to 2009 originally and I had to appeal to go from 10% to 50%. I continued the fight to get service connected back to last date of service, and after working with local Republican Senator and pretty much representing myself I was awarded service connection back to 12/15/1998 last date of service. However they reduced my rating which is 30% right hand and 20% left to 10% left and 0% right from 1998 to 2009!?! I of course appealed that on the bassis of the chronic nature of the illness and the fact that the condition had not changed since 1998. So my appeal is in stage 4 and has already been at BVA for over a year and I am hoping to get awarded the 50% backpay from 1998 to 2009. This process is so broken in my opinion and for those of you suffering far worse than I, I can only say thank you for your service and DO NOT STOP FIGHTING!! They want you to give up and I hope the heart of true patriotic soldiers in you push you on your quest.

Thanks all!

my case with all of the petroleum chemicals has just been moved to the appeals docket... to much info to list here, but this site has lots of my past posts with more info

Both my arms had severe burns, I was on the aircraft carrier CVN 69 Eisenhower. I was a jet mech. We had a general quarters when was working fuel problem on flt deck. I sat in shop with arms covered in fuel for over four hours I went to a water fountain and had a heated conversation because he did not want me to use water. I was ready to take his gun away from him and shove it up his ass. I tried the water fountain even after his threats to shoot me for using water. Dam water was turned off. My arms blistered from burns. I did not go to sick bay. I regrett this. I have dark spots on my arms where I was burned. I was a jet mech on A-7E. I could also taste fuel in bug juice on boat. That statistic on report was very alarming to me.
