Electronic Records "secure"?

Rate this question

Question

Wasn't sure which category to put this under, so thought I would start here....

I've recently had to switch tdocs. I've met with two different tdocs in 3 weeks (different problem)....but my previous 2 tdocs and I (over the past 10 years) regularly e-mailed each other with no problems.

The new tdocs have flatly refused to e-mail me saying that the "system" is not "secure". Huh!!!?? It didn't sink in at first what they said.....now the proverbial lightbulb has lit. (forgive me, I'm blonde).

If e-mails are not safe....what does that say about our medical records? Wow!! Scares me.

records both electronic and hardcopy are only as secure as the system they live in. Normally in an "intra-net" environment(that used by the VA, banks, police departments, etc...) they are secure.

e-mails are not safe?

Meaning they can be printed out and used against you.

What is exchanged in person doesn't get you in trouble like some of these Dr's emails have been doing. It's not about the security of it, but the "safety" of it for them.

But you said.................see, it says right here in this email!
