HadIt.com Elder john999 Posted September 23, 2008 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted September 23, 2008 I think you would want to stay on SSI. If you get SSI you can get medicade, food stamps, section 8 etc. SSA you get medicare when you reach 65. You are better off on SSI because of other benefits. You can't get SSI and SSA at the same time.
gp747
what if i decide to take retirement as my ssi has gone down to only $100 a month with the 30% and my wife working, can i still file for my (sc) conditions and or will they say he has given up and retired ,doesnt plan on working any more. will it make it harder to win my (sc) claims? ausgmblr
The SSI isn't taxable. Did it get reduced and they put you on SS because you hit 62? The SSI has no effect on the SC. I drew the SSI and 100% for a few years. Ended up SS was mailing me leters after I retired from Fed teling me I didn't have 40 quarters then at 62 they tell me i can get SS, rules diferent cause I was on SSI. ausgmblr
