Akaka's Cola Increase For Veterans Now Law

Rate this question

JohnM

Question

I contacted the office of Daniel Akaka (202)224-9126 . This year's cola increase, which will be equal to the annual SS increase, has yet to be determined. But as it stands as of today the gentelmem told me that it is 2.5%.I told him that does not pay for gas or heat this winter. And it does not even cover for inflation.

Has anyone heard different?

Wings did you read this one too??

Read from post "Do you think we will get the 6.2% cola in our compensation" Original post Aug 08 and updated Sept 28th 08 with Bureau of Labor statistics.

Also see vfw washington weekly 12 sept 08 cola passes house ss increase won't be known till mid-oct but is expected to be minimum of 6%. Vets matches ss provider amounts. Senate passed this in Jul 08.

I don't mean to make this a politicial debate but if U vote for McCain because he's a Vet it's a wasted vote as he votes against increases, etc. for the Military all the time & there is some Veterans group protesting against him........GARY

Gary you are so right: McCain said he would support the Veterans on Friday Night Debate, but it is a known fact that he votes NO on every thing for the Veterans, and I am affraid that if he gets Nominated the Veterans and SSD people will be shafted. I do think we will get higher than 2.5% but as it stands now the gentelmen told me it was 2.5%

If we are going to discuss candidate's issues, please take it to the presidential election forum. This is not the place for it.

John M...the gentleman you spoke with is wrong on the percentage. How could he know what the percentage is when the numbers that it is based on haven't even come out yet?

Inflation rate is at 14.2% as of today, Senior Journal.com said as of Sept.15th projections are now being made that the increase for 2009 will almost certainly exceed six precent.
