HadIt.com Elder john999 Posted October 17, 2008 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted October 17, 2008 If you have evidence that you were diagnosed or treated for depression you can file a claim for it. If you have evidence to support a PTSD claim you can file for that. I would file for one or the other whichever I had the strongest case. They will both be rated as mental disorders and they will be rated together under one rating %.
carlie
ertle, Do you have SMR or Medical Evidence ? carlie
ertle, We are all volunteers here and it might be best to check for answers 5 or 6 hours after you post, people will chime in. Please don't keep starting new threads on it so rapidly, 3 of the same kind of question in less then 30 minutes will only confuse things. Thanks, carlie Carlie passed away in November 2015 she is missed.
HadIt.com Elder rentalguy1 Posted October 17, 2008 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted October 17, 2008 depressive disorder nos, h/o ptsd This means that you have a non-specific depressive disorder (nos = not otherwise specified) with a history of ptsd symptomology. You have enough symptoms of depression to warrant notice, but you don't fit neatly into the criteria of one of the adjustment disorders established by the Diagnostic and Statistics Manual, 4th edition. If you have a diagnosis of ptsd, and a verifiable, in-service stressor, then you can file a claim for that. If you have a diagnosis of a adjustment disorder, and it is either documented to have started while in service, or as secondary to a service connected condition, and a physician has made a written nexus statement regarding the disorder, then you can file a claim for that. At the current point, you need to develop the diagnosis further, in my opinion. Get a firm diagnosis, then work on the stressor (if needed for ptsd) or the nexus to active duty. 90%, TDIU P&T
HadIt.com Elder Wings Posted October 17, 2008 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted October 17, 2008 x x x 1. Get a copy of your service medical records. Get a copy of your service personnel records. 2. Go to the public library, read the Diagnostic and Statistical manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition (DSM IV) 3. Read about Depression NOS. Read about PTSD. 5. Go to a doctor, and tell them about your Depression AND your PTSD. If your service records show mental health problems (medical or personnel), and your civilian records show mental health problems, and your current MH problems relate back to military service, you need to connect the dots, build a bridge from there to here, past to present. 6. Keep asking questions. 7. File a VA Claim. USAF 1980-1986, 70% SC PTSD, 100% TDIU (P&T)
