Use Of Civilian Phyciatrists

Question

Anyone use a phyciatrist in a non post tramatic stress syndrome claim. Attorney says with my lack of sight, I would be surprised how much it effects other different areas of my life (for example my vision problems effect my social skills, learning, playing sports, etc.) My attorney wants to use a phyciatrist to help further my claim. I said ok until the phyciatrist quoted me $1500.00. Not sure if it's a waste of time and money.

HOW CAN YOU REALLY GET A CIVILIAN PSYCHIATRIST TO HELP YOU WITH YOUR SSDI CLAIM WHEN YOU DON'T THINK HE WILL. HOW DO YOU APPROACH HIM TO HELP YOU?

One thing to bare in mind is that a treating physician carries more weight at the end on the day I don't care how many IMO's you have. If you can't work tell them so and why and how you are affected, they will know if you full of it, or being straight but if its the VA forget it you could walk in there with a gun, hula hope and a tutu and leg warmers and not get a solid opinion.

IT SEEMS LIKE THE DR GETS YOU IN THE OFFICE AND SAYS WHAT'S WRONG AND 15 MINUTES LATER HE'S WALKING OUT THE DOOR. HOW CAN YOU START TO TELL HIM ABOUT YOUR NOT BEING ABLE TO WORK? I HAVE A HEARING ON MARCH 27TH WITH THE ALJ AND I NEED TO GET THIS DR ON MY SIDE BEFORE THEN.

Itate90-

it seems you want a medical opinion that says you are unable to work.

The profile thing here says you have 100%-

What is the 100% for?

and have you informed SSA that the VA gave you 100% award?

It was my experience that many Docs are reluctant to state that you cannot work for the next year. I just asked a Doc to help me with the claim and they do it all the time. Either they will or they won't so ask before you even go to see them.

Good Luck

Many of the Lawyers who deal with Social Security Claims can refer you to shrinks who will help.
