Private Insurance/100% T/p

Rate this question

Michael

Question

Good Day: I just received a letter from West Haven, VT VA, requesting that I sign a release so they can bill my private insurance for recent treatment. I am a 100% T/P rated vet(past 6 years). I have received all my treatment from this VA. 1. Should I sign this release? 2. Can VA bill my insurance with my type of 100%T/P rating. 3. Any other advice on this issue? Michael

Yes, the VA can bill your insurance for treatment of Non service connected treatment. I think in the case of 100% vets it is a disgrace, but they will do it. You have to argue with them to not bill for SC conditions. They do that to me. How do they know you have private insurance? Was your treatment for SC condition or NSC condition? I don't know if you have to sign this release or not.

If you are covered by private insurance then you must tell them, if you don't and submit the annual statement claiming you don't have it and they can prove you do then they have you for signing a fraudulent document I have medicare Part A and they have a copy of it and each year we go thru the same game they send me a form requesting my private insurance and they get my medicare part A number I am also 100% P&T there is no requirement we carry any other insurance but if you do have it then you have to tell them and give them the policy numbers they can bill for all medical treatment that is not a SC medical condition on the bright side whatever they bill your insurance company for and whatever they don't pay the VA can NOT ask you to make up the difference

my step son was a retired Army Officers dependent and the Army hospital billed my Blue Cross policy for each visit 100 bucks didn't matter for what a blood test, see a shrink, a physical etc whatever the bill was 100 bucks and I complained to BC/BS about it they told me it was easier for them to pay the bill than to argue with the govt over it

on the other hand if you don't give them your private insurance data they can get you for fraud if you sign the statement claiming you don't have private insurance when you do will they probably bill your ins for SC medical treatment more than likely then you can notify your insurance compnany that the VA shouldn't be filing for those treatments and tell them to get their money back like BC/BS they probably won't bother

but don't get yourself in trouble by claiming you don't have private ins if you do thats trouble you don't need

John my VAMC sends me an annual insurance form to fill out I give them medicare Part A since that is all I have.....they still don't have permission to bill medicare I imagine that if they do then they will try and force all veterans to pay for Part B if I live to 65 I might sign up for Part B anyway my care is great right now but the VA can change back to pizz poor care in the future also

I have BC/BS and the VA tries to bill my insurance for everything including drugs for my SC conditions. They even billed for a C&P exam. If not for just wanting to stay in the loop I would never darken the VAMC's doors. I complain about it, and I get another EOB from BC stating what they paid for drugs or visit with my PCP. I don't know how they determine my visits with the PCP are for NSC conditions since I have about 7 SC conditions including chronic pain, DMII and CAD. They charge for blood work. How are they supposed to monitor my DMII and do drug screen if they don't do bloodwork and urine tests? How do you fight this crap. My pills are all for SC conditions. I talk to BC and got nowhere. It is there money. I don't pay co-pays, but the VA should be paying for this stuff. I have back trouble and never get to see an orthopod or neurologist. I have CAD and never get to see a cardiologist. What kind of care do I get from VA? When I need to see a specialist I use medicare and my own insurance. I would probably be dead by now if I depended on my VAMC. The pain clinic is the worst joke of all. It is great as long as you don't go for pain treatment. If you want to become addicted to narcotics use the VA pain treatment plan.

I don't mind I can't drive anymore haven't since 2000 thr shrink says my flashbacks disqualify me from having a drivers license besides putting myself at risk, I would be risking the lives of people on the road, so since they can't/won't operate on my herniated disks from L3 - S-1 I take all the percocet they will give me and clonazepam to sleep without the drugs I average 2 hrs a night and to me I don't care about the addiction my heart is in such bad shape I will take the relief....and actually I get well coordinated care from my PCP, shrink and cardiologist they work together and share treatment so it is like one stop treatment and I can NOT complain about the medical care now the Columbia VARO I will complain about to anyone that will listen sorry sick people
