New Bill Would Guarantee Seniors a Minimum Social Security

Boost of Three Percent Every Year

Dear friend,

Congress has been fiddling around with healthcare over the past few months and that has pushed the issue of no COLA in 2010 to the bottom of the pile.

But, TSCL hasn't forgotten and I'm sure you haven't either! TSCL is keeping the pressure on Congress. Recently, we have sent out mass faxes to Congress demanding they make COLA a priority.

TSCL has also come out in support of a new bill "The Guaranteed 3% COLA for Seniors Act of 2009." The bill (H.R. 4193) is a reaction to news that seniors will not receive any Cost of Living Adjustment in 2010.

We all know there will be no COLA next year. We know you haven't forgotten either and we need you to continue to demand it happen. As the year quickly is drawing to a close, we need your support.

A guaranteed 3% COLA is exactly what America's seniors need to keep up with inflation.

Please also spread the word by urging your friends to sign the Emergency COLA petition. Forward this email and ask them to visit http://www.tscl.org/action/emergencycola.asp to sign the petition.

Thank you for your continued support.

Daniel O'Connell

Board Chairman

The Senior Citizens League

P.S. It's vital that we keep the pressure on Congress to grant a basic increase in our Social Security COLA for 2010. Please keep the pressure on your members of Congress by

signing the petition, getting others to sign, and making a contribution to TSCL's efforts to get an emergency Social Security COLA for you and millions of other seniors for 2010!

It sounds like this bill "forgot" someone...oh yea..they forgot Veterans. They have forgotten about Veterans so many times that they didnt even notice they "forget" them this time.

The powerful, well organized, well funded united AARP lobby didnt even bother with Veterans either because they know the VA lobby is weak, underfunded, divided among VN/WW2/OIF Vets and consists mainly of groups like the DAV/VFW etc who collects large portions of their money from Veteran's advesary...the VA.

The DAV/VFW knows if they lobby for Veterans Cola, the VA could make them start paying rent they now enjoy for free at the VA Regional Offices, because the VA uses money they take from Veterans to fund lucrative "friends and family" contracts, and VA executive bonuses. So, the VSO's caved again to the VA.

AARP is an organization for SSA recipients, not Veterans.

They're not excluding vets, nor are they including them. If passed, Vets will be included in the COLA increase automatically. Our funding is based on what SSA recipients receive.

I don't agree with it, but that's how the funding is written.

I agree with others. It's not likely we will receive any COLA.

Federal employees have already seized it for their 10% increase during one of the worst recession this country has ever seen.

If we can't get it under a liberal congress & white house, it will be a cold day in h#ll under a right wing administration.

Seniors, the disabled & Veterans simply seem to be forgotten about during this recession.

How convient it must be when cutting out the pork to include us.

The statement,

"If we can't get it under a liberal congress & white house, it will be a cold day in h#ll under a right wing administration."

Is highly political, inaccurate, and should be removed, noting that under the Republican administration, Veterans got a Cola, not so under the current administration.
