Reimbursement For Copays Since Tdiu Award

Question

Hello Vets, Can anyone tell me if copays for private medical services made since TDIU can be refunded from the VA? I was granted TDIU back to August 09 and have had medical bills with copays that I've made since. The services were for treatment in January thru March of 2010, and I wasn't notified of the TDIU award until March 2010. So of course I wasn't even in the VA health system at the time.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

No I didn't seek care before March 2010. This particular visit was an emergency admission due to a possible heart attack. I was in for two days and nights for testing. It turns out that it was a lung problem that I'm still getting help for. They have already scheduled a CT scan for June to see if three nodules they found in January have grown any. The lung specialist really wants the repeat scan to be made on the same CT scanner that found the nodules in January. Another reason I didn't seek VA attention in January is that I was only rated 60% at the time. I wasn't rated 100% until March of 2010, then it was retro back to August of 09. So at 60% I didn't think the VA would pay for anything but the Service Connected problem?

I have a similar question. My claim was denied in 6/10 for CAD and was reopened again in Oct of 10. When I finally become SC for IHD will the VA pay my deductables for my angioplasty that is scheduled next week. I can't wait on the VA because I don't want to have a heart attack.

I got reimbursed for dental bills from private dentist when I was waiting for IU appeal. I think you should be able to recoup some medical costs that you could have gotten for free if you had been granted IU. I think the VA will argue this point. They will say you chose to use private medical when you could have used the VA.

Bill, I note that you are 80%, which means that you are fully covered, medically, by the VA, which causes me to ask if you are being seen by the VA for your heart problems. In other words, why would you be waiting on the VA, when you are already 80% and, as such, subject to total medical care by the VA? Service-connection has become a moot point for you.

Larry,

I understand what you are saying about the 80%(AO related amd PTSD). I go to the VA for a physical once a year and get the free meds from them. I have never seen anyone for my heart issues at the VA and I have never been refered to one. I have to get this procedure done ASAP and my Dr. said I should do it now. I don't think I would get a heart appointment at the VA in a week or so unless I showed up on a stretcher at their ER. Anyway, I got to get in done sooner than later.
