Vet Center Cert. Psyc

Rate this question

Question

Just a quick question and if it has been asked and answered already please forgive me. On the new regs on PTSD, it states that a VA Psyc or Contracted Psyc by the VA is the only ones now that can dx you for PTSD. My question is, does this EXCLUDE a Board Certif. Psyc from my local Vet Center? Or will they now be NOT able to dx you for PTSD and not count? Is the Vet Center pysc now just considered a private IMO or are they accepted by the VA? Thanks in advance, Chu

Chu,

I think the Phycholigist at the Vet Center is there for treatment only and not for evaluation. When I had my exam

for PTSD my record of treatment was part of the whole package.

VA did not even mention my PTSD DX by the Vet Center when I filed for IU back in 2001. They listed the DX of chronic

PTSD,Severe by the Vet Center, but my claim revolved around my IMO. I don't believe the VA gives any weight to DX by the Vet Centers. The C&P exam and treatment records by VA and other doctors is what counts.

The pysch doctors that work at the veterans centers are VA psychologist, so I don't see why it wouldn't count. They can write letters in support of your claim, they write it on VA letterhead. I have had Vet Center psychologist's write letters for me and it has always been accepted and helped with various claims.
