Ptsd Claim - Anyone W/experience On This?

Question

Claim was originally denied due to lack of stressor and ability to confirm I was in combat zones. Claim being reconsidered due to knew legislation whereby stressor not necessary. I also located/provided docs that support I was in combat zones (one doc even references that I was located in imminate danger zone). Was dx w/ptsd for about 2 years now...just recvd word I will be scheduled for c/p evaluation. Should I take as a promising sign? Seems they wouldn't go to that extent if they didn't feel my claim was valid. Thoughts?

"Should I take as a promising sign?"

You bet.

Maybe they are considering the PTSD claim under the New PTSD regulations. The new regs are in our PTSD forum.

The DX of PTSD has to come however from a VA mental Health provider.

"Claim was originally denied due to lack of stressor and ability to confirm I was in combat zones"

I wonder if they even asked JSRRC to confirm the stressor-=something vets can do as well.

simply "They(the US Army)have guns, but so do we."

Sameo to us -They (VA) have 38 CFR ,38 USC, and M21-1- but so do we.

Thanks for the feedback.

The DX I received was from the VA so on one hand, I'm surprised I have to go through a C/P exam. Would you think that they would schedule the C/P if they still questioned me being in a combat zone?

Just because someone was in a combat zone does not make the VA claim for PTSD. They have to evaluate the stressors, if you received a combat badge or ribbon, your mos/job duties, what symptoms you have been having. when they started, who/when you have been receiving treatments, what medication/medications you might be taking.

If you have any witness's who can vouch for you, or buddy letters.

The true evaluation process involves a C&P exam so the psychological examiner can determine if/what problems/mental issues you have. how long, and how much do they affect your well being and aspects of mental health problems you experience. Gather all you can and remember don't dress your sunday best for this exam. If you have "bad" days 6 out of 7 don't say you have a good one. Any problems you have make sure you tell them at this exam...mental health that is.
