You might want to check out some of the recent Success Stories as there have been a couple of IHD/AO claims that have received their ratings and CHECKS!!

The new IHD regs are :

"According to Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine (Harrison's

Online, Chapter 237, Ischemic Heart Disease, 2008), IHD is a condition

in which there is an inadequate supply of blood and oxygen to a portion

of the myocardium; it typically occurs when there is an imbalance

between myocardial oxygen supply and demand. Therefore, for purposes of

this regulation, the term ``IHD'' includes, but is not limited to,

acute, subacute, and old myocardial infarction; atherosclerotic

cardiovascular disease including coronary artery disease (including

coronary spasm) and coronary bypass surgery; and stable, unstable and

Prinzmetal's angina. Since the term refers only to heart disease, it

does not include hypertension or peripheral manifestations of

arteriosclerosis such as peripheral vascular disease or stroke.

http://www.regulatio...A-2010-VBA-0005"

(Of course if IHD has caused stroke or any other secondary condition, those conditions should be claimed as secondary to the IHD and will need medical evidence of the nexus of the claimed secondary to the IHD. )

The AO IHD rating criteria is my first post (Nov 5, 2010)in this scroll:

so since the aorta is the largest artery, would they consider that ihd? the only thing it pumps blood and oxegen to the rest of the body, it makes the heart work harder. i know i read somewhere one of the symptoms is high blood pressure. my husband filed a claim for ihd in oct of 09. but he has had high blood pressure for years, and has been taking med for it. he did file for hypertension, but they denied it. any suggestions on this. should he push the hypertension because of the aortic valve problem.

IHD is becoming a misconcieved term. It is only for Vietnam AO vets.

Heart disease secondary to DMII is a regular heart disease claim as a secondary condition.

This is a winable claim as long as you were diagnosed with the DMII first.

The regs are clearly posted for Coronary Artery disease and ect.

"IHD is becoming a misconcieved term. It is only for Vietnam AO vets."

And only those vets who actually have IHD.

As I mentioned in a prior post we cannot be expected to diagnose IHD for most vets with the limited info they post here-

having said that however some vets here obviously have IHD and we can tell by the medical evidence they share with us and feel confident their claim will succeed.

Others do not have IHD at all.

I am getting many calls from Vietnam vets in this locale who think they have IHD- one call Sunday came from a professional who works at the local VAMC. Hs ship was briefly in offshore Vietnam waters.

He too has Aortic problem and asked me if it was IHD.

I told him to ask his doctor because I don't have a MD after my name.

(I have known him for over 20 years and he was surprised I said that because he knows I studied cardiology in the past and

aortic disease could be part and parcel of a IHD clinical profile- but standing alone- it just isnt IHD.

"should he push the hypertension because of the aortic valve problem."

Yes -if he has a proven or provable nexus to his military service.

Does he have an award of SC for DMII? Perhaps the aortic condition stems from the DMII.

If there is medical evidence for that he culd claim the aortic problem as secondary to the DMII but a medical dctor would have to support the medical connection.
