Question

Hi, I hope this is the right place to post this.

I filed a claim last week with the VA regarding a back problem. I had a piece of equipment dropped on me when I was in, and the back problem has become huge over the years, back then I did not even think about it. So, now I am filing a claim on it, and the only medical help I have sought on it is back when I was in the Navy. Ever since then I just kind of rode it all out.

Another question I have is that back when I was in, I was raped (kinda hard to talk about here, but I need some advice, and I hope you all can just please respect this, and not look down or anything. This happened while I was in the Navy, but it did not happen on the boat, so I was reading through the info on here, and it says that the VA covers claims that happened in the line of duty. so, if this is not a work related incident I cannot be covered?

Thank you for your time

Dave

Welcome to Hadit.com

We have several members here who experienced Military Sexual Trauma (MST).

Are you having any mental health problems due to this and if yes, are you in therapy at either a VAMC or a Vet Center ?

http://www.vetcenter.va.gov/

Your right on Carlie, I found the Vet Center heads above the VA Med Center in treatment for MST. The Pysc's there seem to really know how to handle that problem. I would highly recommend any Vet Center. Plus the good thing, the Vet Center pysc's are considered one of the VA psyc's that are recognized by the Department of Veterans Affairs to diagnose PTSD and MST.

I'd rephrase that to "if they feel like it". There is a denied claim in my records with military treatment records that flatly state "duty related". My lawyer and I intend to pursue this issue as soon as other major Nehmer claims are resolved.

The claim involves a small per month amount. If the full copy of the records are reconstructed properly, multiple denials are involved, going back as far as 1969. The reason for the denials? "Not service related"

Let's see, that might amount to ~$23,000

A big problem in 1969 was the time and difficulty involved in just getting the VA to do an exam at a distant VARO.

The VA covers claims when you were in the military service...........what time of day it was does not make a difference. Had a friend of mine that was badly injured driving home on leave...........he is covered.

I really appreciate everyones help and advice. I just wish I could go see a VA counselor and get some help...even though the money would be awesome, and the rating would be awesome..shit, I have 5 grand in counseling bills racked up already lol that I dont have money for. And people are like well, go see the free folks who have a clinic, but it is hard to do that cause you never see the same person twice lol. And it is like everytime some stress situation hits the thing that happened to me overwhelms my life, and I wish the VA had free counselors, but the lady at the desk the other day told me I have to fill out a form and wait 2 months lol. Damn, i guess I just gotta hang on somehow.

Thank you all for bein here.

Cheers

dmc,

Go try the Vet Centers.

You do not get any bills from services provided from the Vet Centers, there is no charge.

You will get to see a mental health professional at the Vet Centers and it will be the same one on a regular basis.

You will not have to wait 2 months to get services provided at the Vet Centers.

They can do an initial intake for walk-ins and from there they can schedule regular on going appointments.

Carlie passed away in November 2015 she is missed.

Dave, I am sorry that this happened to you. You have the option to file a claim to service connect posttraumatic stress disorder caused by rape but the claim may need some corrobation other than your statements like service medical records, police reports, buddy statements, unit diaries, etc. Have you previously filed a claim for this? Welcome to hadit.
