Primary Care Dr. Vs Specialist

Question

Hi,

My husband's VA Primary Care Dr. put him on medicine for neurapathy a while back. (She tries to play the role of psych, podiatrist, and probably any other specialist). So, with his on going toe problem(after screwed up surgery and pt) he was sent to a Neurologist. Well, the Neurologist immediately took him off the medicine that his primary care dr. had him on. He said he could not believe she had him on that medicine with his history of mental health. He said that people with mental health problems have overdosed on this medicine. I think it was something equivalent to Elavil, but she had him on it for neurapathy. The neurologist also said that the dose he was on would do nothing for the neuropathy. Anyway, my question is has anyone had this happen before and what happens when one dr. goes against another both within the VA?

Thanks,

sbrewer

Probably happens more than we will ever know-

and it is like playing Who's On First?

A vet cannot determine which doc is right-

When my husband was hospitalized with a stroke- the neuro docs all acted like they were in charge-

and they all had conflicting opinions at first-

plus they had to cover up another VA's medical errors-

Rod had a new diagnosis daily for the two weeks he was stuck at the local VAMC.Not one of them was right diagnosis but they are all documented.

The VA meds prescribed for him for 6 years were all wrong according to a VACO doctor.

These VA medical problems can only be described best in terms such as a "cluster ----".

Thanks Berta for a fast response...

You know, it's kinda scary when you don't know what to do with one come at ya one way and another the other...

He is scheduled for a C&P the 17th for his toe. We're quite sure nothing will come of this(he filed an 1151 for this and it was denied and his SO appealed or whatever you do), he just wants that podiatrist to admit he screwed up the toe. Even his primary care dr has turned on him about the toe from her initial claim. He wants to swith drs, but said he wanted to wait until after the C&P to see what they say. She(primary care dr) actually yelled at him at his last visit. She told him that he knew his toe would not bend as a result of the surgery before he had it and that it was in his records. He said no I didn't and I have a copy of my records.

Thanks for everything,

I believe I would get an outside opinion before the C&P exam. This way you have another Doctor supporting your claim. Take the outside DR. findings with you at the C&P. If you go to the C&P without other medical supporting documentation your in for the run around, maybe years.

Elavil is an anti deppressant. It is also given for Migraine headache suffers.

Amytriptleyne is the VA version. It is hard to get off of and it took me over a year to do so.

Thanks everyone,

He has already filed an 1151.

Amytriptleyne is what she was giving him for neurapathy. However, the neurologist took him off of it and said she should not had put him on it.

Thanks,
