0 Dave54134
Hello, im getting 50% dis and I'm about to start a job as a tech in the army guard. Will I still be able to get my va check and tech pay?
justrluk
That depends on what you CAN do. If for some reason you are found unfit for your job, you could be placed in another job with requirements that meet your level of ability. If not, you can push for disability retirement. Are you FERS?
cssamo
I am with the New retirement systems. I think it is FERS or CTRS or something like that. I am unsure.
meghp0405
My son is going through this process right now. He was injured in Iraq 2 1/2 years ago. He was medavaced to Landsthul (Germany) for 5 weeks, then they sent him home. He is also in the reserves. Is what happened in his case is the VA awarded him 90%. The Reserves are using this to do a medical board on him because he is not able to continue military service.
justrluk
If you are a technician whose military position is tied to your civilian position, disqualification from the military will automatically disqualify you from the reserve side of your position. I was in the unit program, an IMA, a guardsman and an AGR as well as an Air Tech. That said, they would have to find you another civilian position that would suit your needs. If they can't do this they would have to medically retire you on both sides (mil and civ).
cssamo
Thank you Meg, and Just-r-Luck, If / When they retire me, will I get paid for the VA and the Guard and the Technician? i have heard that you can only draw one from (National Guard & VA), but you can get your technician retirement.
