Guest jstacy
I do beleive a virus hit me because it also affected my Mcafee John -are you saying the older docs are now basically still on the hard drive but cannot be edited? But they could still be read with the viewer? I thought PCs would eliminate paper- Berta, there is a possibility the files are still there. They may be saved ont he C: drive. Dorothy go to C: windows: Programs and look for Word. You may have just lost the shortcut. What operating system do you have? Office 97 will work with windows 95 / 98 / NT Office 2000 will work with XP
In Memoriam Stretch Posted August 18, 2006 In Memoriam Share Posted August 18, 2006 (edited) Dorthy, Recopy the short-cut to the desk-top. Go to your search function on the start bar and then search. 1. Click on all files and folders. 2. Enter "Word.exe" without the quotes. 3. Click on search. 4. When word.exe shows up in the box to the right, you can click on word.exe...copy the file word.exe (right click and copy or Cntrl C to copy) 5. Right-click on you desktop and copy (or Paste)(right-click and paste or Cntl-V) the file to your screen. This will make a new short-cut if you have lost the old short-cut. In Memoriam Stretch Posted August 19, 2006 In Memoriam Share Posted August 19, 2006 Window XP does not work with word 6.0 (this word 6.0 is prior to Word97). You can use a file to convert the old word 6.0 file, so that it will work with XP. You must have a newer XP compatible version of Word (Office 2000 etc.) to convert the old file to work with XP. In Memoriam Stretch Posted August 28, 2006 In Memoriam Share Posted August 28, 2006 (edited) Dorthy, If you cannot buy Office 2000 or 2002. You can open up the a word document in your wordpad program that comes with XP. This will work in a pince. 1. Start 2. All Programs 3. Move up to accesories then to the side-block 4. Slide down to wordpad, and click on wordpad 5. When wordpad opens go to the top and click on file, then open 6. Select the directory (folder) and locate the document 7. Select the file type box arrow and select (Word for Windows *.doc) (You can also select all files). 8. Click on the document. It should open automatically.
