I just found medical records that said that i had real bad sinus infection off an on for 5 yesrs. I had an mri done in feb 15 for severe headaches an they saw that one of my sinus cavity is completely closed an will require surgery to fix this problem. Can I claim this? Thanks for any input.

My co workers husband is service connected for chronic sinusitis.

He went to a ENT specialist and had a CT Scan.

The CT SCan showed mucosal thickening in the maxillary and ethmoid sinuses.

He repeatedly went to the ENT every three months for antibiotic treatments.

He was approved (10%) after waiting 14 months for his NOD to be decided.

My husband is rated 10% for chronic sinusitis. It was a struggle and languished in appeals for several years, but we stuck with it and he was awarded back to original date of claim. We got an IMO from the USAF surgeon who worked on him while on active duty, immediately after my husband medically retired, and submitted it with the original claim. It was still a fight.

Thanks every one responses, i really appreciate it.

Broncouvet you bring up some good points about filing cause i can say its not chronic like the others stated. I was surpised about the finding from the mri an when I received my health records I saw all of the severe sinus infection I had but it was long ago so I was wondering if I could make a claim after all this time. Right now I have a c n p exam july 9th for tui so i will concentrate on that. Good luck to all.

If you find out what surgery they are doing and post it, I can tell you what it was like for me, recovery, etc. The surgery you are getting is not a Full Frontal FESS is it? That is a radical, long procedure. I have had three sinus surgeries, two related to sinusitis / rhinitis. The last one was the Full Frontal FESS, the first one they just cut out polyps, etc. Neither one fixed my deviated septum, maybe a little better after the 2nd. IF they find polyps, and they come back it is "supposed" to be a minimum 30% award. It used to be 40% but they reduced it several years ago. I had polyps the second two surgeries. Mine falls under 6510 Sinusitis, pansinusitis, chronic. I SHOULD get 50% for that but I am expecting 30%.

BTW, I still get migraines, post surgery, but I waited until after my surgery to look for more relief from them because I was hoping that it was my sinuses and would be fixed with the surgery. It is very possible it will fix the headaches though, I just wasn't that lucky.
