Help With Champva- Newly Married With Suprise Pregnancy

Question

I'm not really sure what to do. I can't seem to get straight answers on how to set all this up. We are moving from Hawaii to Washington St. And my 8 week pregnant fiancé has to quit her job. So she will be without health care. We are not getting married tell Aug 7th. I'm afraid that the Champva is going to take to long to come in effect. She has all ready had some minor issues that ended us up in the ER. Does anybody know the timelines on updating my status to married? And getting all this stuff squared away so we don't rack up a ton of ER bills. Most importantly making sure she and the baby are in good standing. This is our first child and I'm scared with how long the VA will take. Also could I take her to the VA hospital before we are married if need be? I'm 100% P&T. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Mahalo:)

I think you need to call Glen Johnson, of the CHAMPVA program:

Glenn Johnson 303 331 7864

He has done many show here on how CHAMPVA works.

My thoughts would be: For now, get married today/tomorrow, by a JP, at city hall, if necessary, and then follow thru w/any wedding plans you have for August 7. This get her and child, covered asap. It'll probably cost about $100.

ChampVA usually covers 75% over everything, w/o worrying about terms like "pre-existing." jmo

Champ VA or not, there are certain things that should be covered with the previous insurance  There is also "Cobra".  Cobra is intended to cover temporary situations such as between jobs.  Decades ago, I quit a job, and moved. My wife was pregnant with our first child. When all was said and done, the insurance from the job I quit had to pay, since the pregnancy started when it was providing coverage.
