TBI vets scammed by VA

Rate this question

Question

"VA issued a statement following exposure of a scam at Minneapolis VA where unqualified doctors were posing as qualified doctors and denying claims for traumatic brain injury. In a statement, VA claims it “greatly regrets” having unqualified doctors misdiagnose brain injury.

This is a follow up story from KARE 11 NBC about a brain injury scandal I uncovered being committed at the facility. Veterans seeking service connection for traumatic brain injury (TBI) residuals were not receiving exams from qualified doctors despite clear guidelines to not do that.

The story is unfolding across the nation and reporter AJ Lagoe is chasing down leads to expose this national scandal. In Minnesota (through the Minneapolis VA.

I had mentioned it in other posts, but I think there is also an issue with the initial screenings as well.  I have symptoims of moderate and in some cases sever TBI, however i was told in 2006 i didnt have it solely on the fact that i didnt lose consciousness for more than 30 minutes, etc.  when even their own metrics list (0-30) as a metric for mild in the LOC (loss of consciousness) category. there are other categories and many other metrics.   The fact that i forget where my car is every time i park in a large parking lot, forget something everyday coming to or from work.  or like last night.  had 5 things to get at the store (looking at my list).  bananas, milk, yogurt, onions and ice cream.  I got the bannanas, milk and onions and left.  had to turn around to get the ice cream.  and now that im writing this i forgot to get the yogurt even the second time....geez.  not to mention the headaches, fatigue, i get lost easily without having been driving the same road for a long period of time, even with a gps.  but i guess they were right, i am fine...

Glad they caught this before they ended up shafting even more veterans. Now we just have to hope that it actually gets fixed.

Yes, you did mention this, thanks,  but I couldn't find it......Ben opined there are probably 30,000 more vets this affected.

I just commented at his site that this could involve decades of lousy and manipulated C & P exams for decades of all sorts of denials.

The worse part of the claims process for most claimants is the  'conflict of interest' VA C & P exam- sham.....and  it is a great part of the cause of the backlog.

I have put in a request for a new TBI examination and to have a GW registry C&P.

I had put in a claim for Chronic Fatigue due to GW, however i just dropped it since it may be sleep apnea related.  my VA sleep doc, who is wonderful (not par for the course) had me do a  sleep study through a private facility, but he wanted a split night in patient study, they gave me a one night wearable at home.  he called me recently saying he doesnt give a damn what that one said, its not the correct way to do it with my fatigue issues.

Anyways im hoping the grant the TBI examination, if not i will have to make some calls.
