Question

http://community.hadit.com/topic/15978-acronyms-initialisms-and-abbreviations/

Someone asked today or yesterday and after I read the unread  post, it became read and not unread and I forget who asked and even what forum they asked in.

You would be surprised how much that happens to me.....duh!

I could sure understand this new member's confusion and he needs to know that ,

when we all started out in the VA claims process we were all FNGs, in the lingo and the entire claims process

OOOps another acronym...but I think we all know what that means.

The phone ran one day as my daughter was home on leave from the Mil and after I hung up she said ' Mom, I know you were talking about a VA claim with someone but practically everything you said was an acronym. A little while later I played back a radio show I did with Jerrel for her and that show was full of VA claims acronyms too.

Gee, we are technically all 'bilingual at some point.' I would have an  awful time trying to talk to someone about a claim without these  acronyms.

Yes, that MOS is really an Army thing (Military Occupational Specialty) a soldier get once s/he takes the test to show what field they want to go in. The best way if posting a comment is just to put an explanation in parentheses( ) that way all can follow.  The one I use the most that pretty much doesn't mean a thing is IMHO (In My Humble Opinion) and the best form VA has to tell a veteran if s/he is P & T is VA form 21-8760. When VA grants a veteran P & T if it is TDIU or 100% schedular, VA will also send this form. http://www.vba.va.gov/pubs/forms/VBA-21-8760-ARE.pdf

P. S. I think that it really boils down to the unit that a soldier is assigned to.  My MOS was administration but I served in ADA and SF and I can tell you that in ADA (Air Defense Artillery) and in Special Forces we trained side by side regardless of our MOS and completed all the training as Artillery and Special Forces soldiers.  Yes, after spending years with ADA and then being assigned to SF, you guessed it right more training and hand to hand combat.  Everyone coming into the unit was selected and had to qualify before being actually assigned.

Jez, Loyal. My Vet's dictionary is an Air Force/Air America primer. We broke bread with the Army fairly regularly but we didn't attend the same churches. They were a bit primitive for us. They never had  refrigeration and thus, no ice cubes for adult beverages. That was pretty much a deal breaker.

We, of course, could simply fly in a generator and a refer and call it a Tactical  Operations Center (TOC). Frag Order (FO) briefings for the next day were scheduled at 1630 Hrs and the last one to land had to buy a round. Army Folks never had a problem finding us.

What's wrong with being called a Marine? Isn't that an upgrade for most? LOL!

Hey we all were FNGs at one point or another, and no body would get anywhere without the REMFs!
