Founder Tbird Posted March 7, 2017 Founder Share Posted March 7, 2017 Per Veterans Affairs Directive Quote It is VHA policy that ID bracelets and pendants must be available, upon appropriate request by Department of Veterans Affairs clinicians through Prosthetics Service, for veteran patients whose pertinent medical information would be valuable to emergency medical care providers. - http://www.va.gov/vhapublications/ViewPublication.asp?pub_ID=1828

Content Curator/HadIt.com Elder Vync Posted June 2, 2017 Content Curator/HadIt.com Elder Share Posted June 2, 2017 I remember asking for one of these some years ago and my VAMC flatly said they don't do it. However, after a lengthy hospitalization in 2012, I printed the directive and brought it to them in person. After receiving some bewildering face reactions, they passed it on. I got mine a couple of months later. In afterthought, if I become allergic to any other medications, they are going to have to send me a larger bracelet. lace_amid
lace_amid
Hi Vync, thank you for sharing your experience! That's a good idea about bringing an actual copy of the directive. It's not a widely advertised benefit and we want to thank Ms. T for helping us spread the word here in your community. Glad to hear that you received your medical ID!
