Veterans still get FREE Medical ID in 2017

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

We would like to share our guide on claiming medical alert bracelets and necklaces for veterans. We produced this infographic as part of our advocacy in building awareness of this VA program and benefit.

Per Veterans Affairs Directive

Quote

It is VHA policy that ID bracelets and pendants must be available, upon appropriate request by Department of Veterans Affairs clinicians through Prosthetics Service, for veteran patients whose pertinent medical information would be valuable to emergency medical care providers. - http://www.va.gov/vhapublications/ViewPublication.asp?pub_ID=1828

As a follow up to this initiative, we'd like to share this helpful video guide designed for veterans who want to claim their medical ID benefit:

We hope this encourages more veterans to claim their custom engraved medical IDs. The downloadable VA information sheet can be found here: http://www.americanmedical-id.com/va

Thank you!

I remember asking for one of these some years ago and my VAMC flatly said they don't do it. However, after a lengthy hospitalization in 2012, I printed the directive and brought it to them in person. After receiving some bewildering face reactions, they passed it on. I got mine a couple of months later. In afterthought, if I become allergic to any other medications, they are going to have to send me a larger bracelet.

Hi Vync, thank you for sharing your experience! That's a good idea about bringing an actual copy of the directive. It's not a widely advertised benefit and we want to thank Ms. T for helping us spread the word here in your community. Glad to hear that you received your medical ID!
