My understanding is that CRSC requires an application because the case goes before a board comprised of the service member's Service component. Unlike CRDP, CRSC has no disability threshold. A service member can receive this type concurrent receipt and their military retirement even if they are 10% disabled. I believe in order to get both under CRDP, you must be at 40% minimum. If you are less than 40%, that portion is essentially tax free only. This is simplified in case someone wants to sharp shoot me. For anyone thinking this applies to themselves, the injury doesn't have to be strictly combat related. It can be combat training related such as parachuting, diving, demolition...etc.
