Medical Bills Back Pay

Rate this question

Question

I know if you are rated 50% or higher you get free medical from the VAMC. My questions are as follows:

At 50% or higher, can you get prescriptions at no charge and without co-pay for illnesses not SC?

I have read, but hard to believe, you can also get back pay for any medical bills since rating date even if they are not sc related?

When I go to my VAMC for an AO registery exam can I get setup that day with prescriptions to submit by email?

During the time I was waiting for IU I had some major dental work done by a private dentist. When I got the IU I filed to have my dental bills reimbursed by the VA. It took me many months of effort but the VA came across with some( not all) the money I paid out of pocket. The VA has an office for Unauthorized Expenses and these were the people that eventually paid me. The first thing they did was to throw away my claim but I got that fixed.

Hi,

Is it true that we can have back medical bill paid for a SC condition (60% but waiting second claim and for IU)?

Not only have I had dental work, but I had brain surgery (which I am still trying to pay off), and have been to several specialist since then due to my SC connection. My award letter dates back to October, 2005 and I had surgery (absolutely needed) in Nov. 05.

If so, what do I do and where do I go?

Thanks so much,

Tamara

Get receipts from your doctors and dentists and take them to Fee Base. Fee Base won't pay it but Unauthorized Payments section will pay. Usually, the Fee Base is close to the Fee Base office near the VAMC.

John,

Is there a $$ limit on how much they will pay? I still have one hell of a bill left from my surgery.

So I would go to West Point or Montrose (I live in NY) then find the Fee Base and they will direct me to the Unauthorized Payments.

If so, heck, I will drive there tomorrow. I have collection comapnies calling me day and night. One office visit for me is around $690, after my insurance paid their part.

oh, I forgot to ask,

Is there any way I can add my Neurosurgeons to be paid directly from the VA. I haven't signed up for the insurance yet, because my vet rep told me to wait until I get my IU or at least my temp 100%, because I am still out of work from the surgery and they do not see me working anytime in the near future.

Thanks,

Tamara
