7-Day Decision on a 30-year-old Matter: Entering The Guessing Period

Question

I just found out the VA made a decision on a supplemental claim I filed only a week ago concerning a now 30-year-old claim. The matter involves an earlier effective date for TDIU to match the recent grant of an earlier effective date for service connection for GAD. They denied the EED for TDIU based primarily on the now-defunct date of service connection for GAD in 2017 so I sent them that decision along with evidence supporting my inability to earn a decent living for almost thirty years. I averaged over that time, $6000 dollars a year.

How much consideration went into records that support a retroactive rating the same as my current of 70% I don't know but most of the supporting documents are long-gone. I made the unavailability of those records as a part of my argument as I was granted the EED for service connection for GAD under 38 cfr 3.156(c) where service records are added to your file later on that prove your case.

Nervous because they decided so fast - 7 days. Has anyone else had such a lightening-fast decision and if so, how'd it go?

Disclaimer: I understand I only have to wait a few days for an answer but I'm now caught in that guessing frame of mind that won't abait until I found out. 🙂

My ALS supplemental claim was 7 days (approved). Monitor your info on VA.gov to see if there is any extra payment info and to see if the effective dates for disability changed at all. If the date is w/in the last 7 days +/-, it would mean a change was made.

I got back pay deposited into my account the day after the claim closed. Since it was only 8k, it went through quickly. A large amount would take longer.

You only need 70% plus proof that you are UI for the VA to rate you as such. That is what happen in November to me. I am curlily working on my EED.

I sent in as much evidence of UI as I could find after 30 years. All my medical records from that time were destroyed long ago but to have the decision made so fast makes me hope they found what I sent in sufficient to back date me for TDIU all of that time.

Last Friday they told me to call today (Tuesday), and they would tell me over the phone so I called this morning and was told the mail went out on time and now I have to wait. I'm going nuts here.

Congratulations!  Let us know when you get the details, but if you got the money, then you must have gotten the award!

No money yet but hoping it takes less time to approve a grant rather than to deny one.

Friday they said they would tell  me the decision over the phone today then changed their minds when I called in because they said the letter went out on time.

Now I'll be obsessively checking our bank account until something happens or the letter arrives. This is torture. Big fortune or big crash.

I scoured every corner of VA.gov and nothing but they didn't ever update my service connection date after I was awarded an EED last May, either. The old one is still listed. I wish they hadn't told me I could call today for a decision then changed their minds. Now I have to wait for a deposit or no deposit, and the decision via the mail.
