Danang -high Levels Of Dioxin
courtesy Mike Harris- http://www.presstelegram.com/news/ci_6144632 "DANANG, Vietnam - More than 30 years after the Vietnam War ended, the poisonous legacy of Agent Orange has emerged anew with a scientific study that has found extraordinarily high levels of health-threatening contamination at the former U.S. air base at Danang. "They're the highest levels I've ever seen in my life," said Thomas Boivin, the scientist who conducted the tests this spring. "If this site were in the U.S. or Canada, it would require significant studies and immediate cleanup." Sure-Danang was the major I Corps Air base- that is where alot of it landed from transport and then was pu…

C&p Exam Vs. Records Review
Hello all! I was contemplating the claim that I have submitted (increase for right shoulder & gall bladder removal, depression secondary to chronic pain, left shoulder secondary to right swhoulder). The folks at the VA confirmed that my claim is currently with a rating specialist. On my previous claims I had C&P exams. With my current claim it doesn't seem that I will have a C&P exam because they are reviewing my records. Is this normal?

Movement On Appeal
My VARO just told me that my file had been sent to Birmingham VAMC for exams on PN and Sleep Apnea. The evidence submitted with this claim included nerve conduction studies and the sleep studies along with the doctor reports and doctor opinions. So I wonder what they need to examine? I guess this puts off a decision for another six months (waiting on exams and return of file back to VARO. Any comments will be appreciated.

Unsure If C&p Report Is Helpful For My Claim
I read here often, but post very infrequently. This may be a little long, so my apologies in advance. I recently (May 2007) had a C&P exam done in Columbia, SC for a possible increase in my benefits. I'm currently rated at 40%--30% for residuals of insomnia (persistent daytime hypersomnolence), 20% for cervical radiculopathy and strain with left upper extremity weakness, and 0% for left-sided sacroiliitis. After my initial claim was granted I had sleep studies and MRIs that showed that my 'insomnia' was actually a more serious sleep disorder called Idiopathic CNS Hypersomnia (similar to Narcolepsy, article here for anyone curious) and that I have Cervical Degenera…

Mariano V Principi
decades ago we used to say the VA was on a fishing expedition when they would make sure they got a doctor to go against a fully probative claim. This case at the US CAVC is why I am still pissed at the so called DRO review I had- and I am not pissed at the DRO- anewby at that time- I was her first DRO case- but at what my rep tried to sell me. Mariano clearly states that the VA is cautioned against obtaining an additional medical opinion when the claim already has unrefutable medical evidence. In my case I raised the issue that 1. VA had already misdiagnosed heart disease, the extent of HBP, and strokes that my husband had -as documented by the OGC in 1997 …

Hearing And Tinitus C&p
Hello, The DRO ordered c&p for Hearing and Tinitis on 5/7/07. I went to vamc and got my c&p results a week later. The diagnosis is: Mr. Me exhibits mild sloping to moderately severe SNHL begining at 1000Hz in both ears. Medical treatment is unlikely to have any positive affect on patient's hearing. I never had a c&p that did not include something like at least as likely as not service conected etc. I was turned down 3 years ago for sc hearing. Any input will be greatly appreceated. Also it has been 4 weeks since c&p. Anyone know average time frame for my desicion Thank's to all! Les

Is Iris Considered "written Communication?"
Are the IRIS inquiries "written communication" as far as informal claims? When I applied for DIC - the form states that if you have an incapcitated child over the age of 18 - you need to file a separate application for them. That they need to apply in their own right. When I filled out my application - I listed my son - but did not list his resources or income - as the directions said I would need to fill out a separate application for him. I noted in the comments I did not include the info - as I would be sending in a separate claim for him. I sent in an IRIS inquiry and asked if I was supposed to re-send evidence that had already been sent about my husband's…

diabetes Reopen Diabetes Claim Or Is This A Cue?
B) Greetings to All. I am a newbie to your site and have found great information as I reveiwed your FAQ'S. In Jan 06, I filed a claim for Prostate Cancer/Agent Orange, and was approved Feb 07. I have had an appeal going since Aug 2004 for Diabetes due to Agent Orange Exposure. The only update I get is the appeal is "still pending". My denial in 2004 was due to proving Viet Nam Service. Viet Nam Service was proved for PCA using the same info in my 2004 claim. My question is should I file again for diabetes, OR would this meet the criteria for CUE? Your assistance in this matter will be greatly appreciated. DOC

I am an active duty soldier, stationed in germany, currently stateside for school on the east coast. Right now the unit is fenced and getting ready to deploy again. I have served 17 years active duty. What I want to …
