Description Of Symptoms Without Formally Naming The Disease
My husband was denied a claim for carpal tunnel after having had surgery for it three years ago. He's a long-term steroid patient, secondary to a service connected disability - - carpal tunnel syndrome is a recognized secondary outcome of steroid use. They blamed his job. We've appealed and are waiting. However.... I just reviewed his first rating decision from 1994, which states... "Service connection is granted for numbness of right thumb, index and middle finger as the evidence shows onset of the condition(s) during military service. Evaluations for disability involving the peripheral nerves are based on whether impairment involves parlysis, neuritis or neur…

Veterans Stories Requested By Reporter
"I'm looking for vets for two stories. I keep hearing about homeless vets from Iraq and Afghanistan. I'm trying to write a story about it. Second, I'm trying to write a story about tall the reservists and guardsmen who are now on disability but are making substantially less than they earned as civilians. ptsd Appeals Management Center, How Long?
I recieved 10% in 1969, collected that untill 1999 when I filed for an increase. I've been to court of veterans appeals, board of veterans appeals and wherever else it can go. Now my case is at apeals management center. They sent me for a examination Sept. 26, 2006. How much longer can this take? I'm currently 50% PTSD and 10% gunshot would R arm. I should go to 20 or 30% for right arm. I was hoping for IU but reading this forum there seems to be a slim chanch of that!

ptsd Combat Operations Stress / Ptsd
Has anyone else yet heard this term Combat Operations Stress ? ? First I've heard of it. Below I've posted the URL I found it at - and a copy of some vets post, stating what it is and how it differs from PTSD. Makes me wonder what lies ahead for new disabled vets. I think this is worth some research and discussion. jmho, carlie http://groups.msn.com/IraqWarVeterans/iraq...612080324319225 "Erica, Ok first things first. If your soldier just came home then he may just be suffering COS (Combat Operations Stress) The best way to think of this is that anything you do in life effects the rest of your life, wether it is going to college, joining the work force o…

ptsd 1968 Army
Hey Army, I haven't been able to help but notice the many times you post in regards to --- hadit needs to tell vets HOW, not no. If I remember right I think somewhere in here you've outlined specific types of letters suggesting Lady-T basically add these to the FAQ's section. The URL Im posting here for you has been around quite a while. I figure you've been searching for something like it this and at this moment I happen to be in a generous mood so here's a little present for you'r collection of research. carlie http://www.ptsdmanual.com/

It's Only Just Begun!
Hi, I hope you are well. This "B"ravo "S"ierra is very confusing. Earlier I had a telephone conversation with my state VA rep (a very nice man who is now also totally perplexed) and I informed him I had a copy of the ratings decision from my local rep; apparently my state rep has a somewhat different version of what my paperwork says. It is mind boggleing...the state rep inquired about my heart disease and the last time I had dialysis, these conditions were news to me and he told me these conditions were attached to my VA file. I told him this was incorrect. He then proceded to tell me my file is in the VA authorization stage and not to worry because my case is not y…

Ig Report
I am glad I wrote to the IG some time ago- I do believe my letter this caused my RO however to send my claim to the BVA-illegally-it happened around the same time- I figured there would be a repercussion-on the IG letter- maybe that is why they claimed they never got my IMOs- In any event- I pointed out to IG many reasons why my claim is a good example of the need for oversight at the VAROs- as my claim supports exactly a prior 1005 IG survey of the RO employees- posted here many times- This link to VA Watchdog with todays info on the latest from IG contains a goodie: "The timeliness and accuracy of processing these claims remain a top priority for VBA. …

ptsd Secondary Claim-depression Due To Chronic Pain
Hi all, I am looking for information on if anybody has filed a secondary claim for depression due to chronic pain. My worst SC disability is Fibromyalgia followed by interstillial cystitis and tarsal tunnel, plantar fasciitis. Also the VA is running more tests to rule out Lupus. Ever since I was first in the miltary 10 years ago, they suspected Lupus but really did not follow up on it. ANA is really high along with other clinical signs. Anyways back on topic...Do you think the VA would say well the depression is a symptom of fibromyalgia, so you cannot be awarded SC for as a secondary condition. I have read where IBS has been service connected secondary to Fibromyalgia…

Understanding The Smc Rating Process
Special Medical Compensation (SMC) For an explanation of how the SMC category of compensation works, go to: www.warms.vba.va.gov/admin21/m21_1/mr/part4/subptii/ch02/ch02_sech.doc Note that virtually all the references for what is compensable and how/when to combine are based on standards listed in the Code of Federal Regulations or the United States Code. For an explanation of the additional 100% and 50% evaluations, see Item #41. The statutory requirements for Housebound (Schedule “S” – 60% Rule) are covered in Item #46. (Direct entitlement to Housebound is also covered in Item #46.) Although the reference contains a number of examples, it still leaves…

Questiuons About New Rating
I apologize for so many questions, but much of this is new to me. When I am ask at the VAMC what my disability rating is I don`t really know how to answer. I`m 70 IU/P&T,so am I 70 or 100? My decision said I may be elgible for Champva so I went online and filled out an application and mailed it in. Will I receive cards for wife, daughter and myself and should I maintain Medicare along with it. At present my wife pays for a lousy insurance for me monthly at her work. Should I cancel Medicare or policy wife pays for out of her check or cancel both? I go to be assigned a primary doctor next week at the VAMC. I have been on Nexium for many years and all of a su…
