I think they should lose their VA benefits. Yes, they earned them if they were discharged under honorable conditions, but once you become a convicted felon a person should not get those benefits anymore. I think this should be the case for all felons and especially sexual predators. If they choose to be a crimminal, they choose to lose their benefits.

the VA will never do that and rightfully so because where to draw the line i know a guy who self medicated for many years he used drugs to make his nightmares go away and was finally caught and went to jail so does he deserve benefits ? His crime was a felony ? Child molesters should be keep off the streets forever or till they find out why and how to stop them...

I think true child molestors should be placed on an island and allowed to live there with the agreement that if they try to escape they will be shot on sight. These people are incurable and should never be let out to hurt others. There is a difference between the 17 year old and the 15 year old who have sex and the 17 year old gets ten years in prison. That is not what the law should intend, but the law is an ass.

Real psychopaths can not be cured and should be kept away from society to protect us all.

All other crimes I would would think the veteran deserves the benefits, but taken a child and destoying their lives is just to bad. Also I don't think consenual sex between reasonably close age people counts as a sexaul predator.

Actually, there was a story in the news recently about a kid, around here in WA, who had to register as a sex offender because his girlfriend's parents didn't like him and reported him to the police.......she was 17 and he was 18 and they had been dating for quite some time. The story was about how the public wanted the "registered sex offender" tag dropped, by the law just doesn't allow for it at the moment, so he will be a sexual predator for the rest of his life and treated EXACTLY the same as some insane pedophile.

There in lies the problem: Around here there are hundreds (if not thousands) of people on the "registered sex offender" list, but many of those are fairly harmless and were involved in non-violent crimes. This dilutes the meaning of "sexual predator" and makes the general public indifferent to the term in general. If we were to use that tag for ONLY true pedophiles and those convicted of forcible rape, then we, as a community, could better keep track of them and protect ourselves and our children.

Again, the laws need to change drastically and we need to get over this right-wing, anti-sex, fear mongering we've been taught for so many years. Many other countries have NO age of consent (or much younger ages), yet their kids are better taught to respect themselves and one-another, so the average age their kids begin having sex is actually later than our own sexually repressed kids. But we, as Americans, put consenting kids in jail, which is ridiculous imho and it plays down what real rape is all about....

Anywho, sorry about the tangent, but I recently wrote a paper on the differences in sex education (and its effects) between the US and other countries.......

I work with juvenile sex offenders, and while there are a few that fit into the category of a girls parents getting mad, for the most part they are genuine offenders. Some of the juveniles that I have worked with are true pedophiles and others just made a mistake because of their lack of social skills. What most seem to have in common though is the ability to groom a victim. It is not like they usually just out and out force the vicitm to have sex, rather they talk to the vicitm and slowly convince that victim that what is happening is ok. This may not be forcible rape, but the vicitm would not allowen him/herself to do the acts without the grooming. Some of the victims are young (under the age of 12) some are the same age as the offender, and some of the victims are even older but mentally not able to give consent in any meaningful way. I guess what I am saying is that I disagree with the fact that it should just be pedophiles and "forcible" rapists who are on the register. As a parent, I know that I should keep track of these folks, but to my way of thinking someone who grooms another person to get them to have sex belongs on the list as well

.

A "weinie wagger" is a non-violent sexual crime, but still considered aggressive and generally leads to more violent crimes.

What adults do within the confines of 4 walls is one thing, but bringing children into the picture is just not ok. As for having "no age of consent", the only countries I know of that are that way are the ones that traffic in child porn and child sex.....Personally, I don't want to live in that in that environment, and I'm a died in the wool liberal (just not that liberal I guess).

As for WA State, we have some of the most liberal laws in the country, many sex offenders only have to register for 2-5 years and some not at all, depending on the class of the misdomeanor or felony. Why we even let pedophiles live next to daycares and grade schools, because they sued and won that right.

A 28 year old that hasn't learned to say NO deserves to go to jail, maybe he'll learn what no means there....... (not tonight Bubba, I have a headache)
