Although many here can have problems with meds I believe that many of us would be unable to function at all without them. I have known Jack a long time and I agree that any med can cause problems and that is why a patient has to work closely with their Doctor and monitor and report any problems. It is not only the med its the dosage and other meds that interact that have to be monitored.

No one should quit taking a med without a thorough consultation with the Doc who prescribed it.

I agree with Pete to stay on your meds and consult with a doctor before making any changes, as I am aware everyone has different chemistry and that is what a doctor uses to best determine dosage and type of medication. I have to say I have a strange chemistry.

I chose to stop it after being arrested and no one would help me while in Jail they did not understand the fact of continued treatment, nor did they even care.

John you are so correct about the drug company’s they have turned this world upside down from children on up to adults drugs for every need children get speed in the form of ADD RITLIN and adults get Prozac pill’s for every need.

Pete thanks for remembering me, some times I feel like no one knows me anymore!

I've been on Effexor for about five years, currently on 300mg extended release. I know, and my wife requires, that I am a much more normal and functional day-to-day person when I am on correct dosage. Miss a dose or two and the blues and violent sort of thoughts (albeit sometimes warranted) do seem to have room to ramble, as the previous poster's petition mentions. So, I'm kind of stuck on the fence with this drug, I guess. The only real side effect I am frequently aware of is the sexual one. Little to no libido and umm other stuff. This, however, was for me the better choice of med over previous ones including Paxil, Zoloft, Wellbutrin (which one psych doc prescribed with Effexor to counter the sexual side effect by "tricking the brain"/don't think it did). By the way, does anyone have an opinion or experience about now-popular sexual aids like Viagra, etc, and interaction with psych drugs, primarily SSRI reuptake inhibitors like Effexor? One doc seemed to have a negative opinion and I think I quit asking the question. :)

The thing about the SSRI's is that it may not make you limp but will inhibit orgasm in men and women. You can be hard as a rock for an hour and still not have an orgasm. Frustrating to the male ,but perhaps a boon to the wife as long as she is not on it as well.

with the exception of acute injuries, we would never need the meds. But just about everything else. Simple put blood pressure med delete coq10 and your b's. Question of the day. How many people on say blood pressure meds are everyday changing their diets.....eating 1 - 2 leafy green servings, nuts (not processed)s, freshly made tomotao sauce, gave up the glueten, no fried foods, no condements, natural beef. It is a lot easier than you think but I know some of the "sick" people and they just refuse to many any adjustment drinking freshly juice organic carrots are great...........but people just refuse to do it.
