Peacecindia,

I am a peacetime soldier, same timeframe as you were (late 70s, early 80s). I never question my service to my country because we stood ready to defend and serve whether or not we were called to do so.

I didn't realize that not filing for years was considered "negative evidence". I didn't file until I had been out of service for 25 years because I always had access to good mental health care. When I lost that I looked to the VA. They, of course, denied my claim by ignoring evidence in my SMR and letters from the shrinks who treated me while I was on active duty. Then, on NOD, they low balled my claim despite the C&P examiner staing I was 100% disabled. Finally, four years and a second NOD and very spendy IMO later they awarded me 100% P&T. Of course, by this point I don't trust them one whit and don't use VA mental healthcare. I just take the money they send and pay for it myself.

Good luck with your claim. You will find a lot of help here. I did and believe that hadit is one of the reasons I won my claim.

Again, welcome to hadit,

TS Snave
