Qq About Dr. Bash? Requesting For Imo..

Question

QQ gang,

I live in northern California(Sf Bay Area), and Dr. Bash's office is in Maryland/Washington D.C. area. I am aware that he is an expert helping out Vets for disability claims, etc.

As an option and if I decided to work with him coming up w/ an OSA IMO, will VA sort of raise the flag how in the heck can I have an IMO from a well known Vet friendly/VA oriented doctor 3k miles away? I could be wasting $$$. This possible?

Hope to hear from the gang. Thanks!

To check on Dr Bash's cases with vets go to the www.va.gov web site and look up the cases yourself. You can type in his name and click the year, or click all the years...happy reading as he has many on the site. Some wins some loses, but too many for me to go through them all...maybe you can narrow the search with an additional word ie back, spine, hip, leg, etc.

This might be an avenue to explore.

I really need a strong IMO to file my sleep apnea claim(after service) as secondary to (AO) diabetes-II, hypertension, weight gain due to medication, diabetic Neprhopathy, etc...This type of claim(OSA) I understand is hard to win unless it is secondary to PTSD,

bob_abad,

I do not agree, nor am I aware of medical literature, BVA or Court cases

that would help connect OSA as secondary to PTSD.

If you have a link to something that would be supportive of this will

you post it for us.

Maybe other's will chime in on this.

It's me again..

Sorry for my ignorance. What's the difference between IME and IMO?

bob_abad,

IME = Independent Medical Evaluations

IMO = Independant Medical Opinion

IOM = Institute of Medicine

bob - if you check out Hadit's homepage there is either a list or link

to acronyms.

Hope this helps a vet.

Here's more info on IMO and IME.

http://www.va.gov/vetapp94/files2/9413377.txt The appellant's representative also requested an independent

medical evaluation regarding the relationship between the

appellant's head injury during service, abnormal EEG subsequent

to service, and his seizure disorder.

http://www.va.gov/vetapp92/files2/9217220.txt 1. A basis for the Board to obtain an advisory medical

opinion from an independent medical expert has not been

demonstrated. 38 U.S.C. § 7109; Board of Veterans'

Appeals: Rules of Practice, 57 Fed. Reg. 4125 (1992), to be

codified at 38 C.F.R. § 20.901(d). 2. The instant appeal does not present an unresolved

medical complexity or controversy requiring the opinion of

an independent medical expert.

The Board has noted the veteran's request, through his

representative, for an independent medical evaluation, which

could be construed as a request for the opinion of an independent

medical expert. However, VA examination by a board of two

psychiatrists, who have reviewed the record, would afford an

opportunity for personal observation of the veteran, and provide

an opportunity for a more informed and accurate diagnosis.

Update:

I had an independant medical exam and review done by a specialist doctor a couple months back... the report is being worked on and will be sent to me in about 2 weeks... it needs typed and proofed.

Then I will give it to my VSO, so he can send it in to be included my claim. He sent in my new claim a few months back..

I am not sure how much of my condition the doctor will say 'more than likely' caused and/or exaserbated injuries and illness while serving on duty. It took lots of work to find a specialist doctor (in Southern California) and was very pleased witht he doctor and her exam. Jut am really excited and can't wait to see how much this report will help me and my new claim. I paid this speciaist doctor $1,600.00 for the exama nd review. She took two hours in person, did the exam, interview, and is writing the report.

She has lot of experience doing this, now for private insurance companies and individuals. But, in the past she did work for the VA. She specializes in Toxic chemicals like petroleum based exposure illnesses and other toxic chemicals, like those used for printing presses too.

It has been worth work I did to research a doctor, travel, and pay the doctor. I hope it has what I need. This doctor told me my case is very unique because of my condition. I am a real mess. A basket case..

I will update as it progresses.

:huh:
