Nexus Letter In Support Of Hearing Loss

Question

To Whom it may concern:

Patient was seen at this center on September 15, 2009 for a complete audiological evaluation. He complained of difficulty hearing in all listening situations and intermittent tinnitus that have been occurring for several years. Case history indicated no trauma to head, otalgia,or ottorrhea. After review of his military records complete C-file there is a history of excessive exposure to noise while in the military. He was exposed to gunfire, grenade launchers, helicopters, and large machinery constantly.

Impressions:

A severe to profound asymmetrical hearing loss was observed bilaterally. It is my professional opinion this hearing loss is more likely than not due to his military service and his history of his excessive noise exposure he suffered.

Audiology Test Results:

1. Pure tone testing indicated an asymmetrical, bilateral, sensorineural hearing loss, poorer in the right ear.

2. Using the MD word recognition test, his scores represent a 68% in the left ear and could not test the right ear.

The above is my nexus letter from my audiologist in support of my BVA appeal.

I would appreciate any feed back. Thank you, Stillhere

Still here:

Yes, this letter clearly gives you the nexus. The VA will probably deny it anyway..since they regurarly deny valid claims because they know that, at a minimum, they will get an interest free loan from the Veteran for several years while your claim is in appeals. They also know that many Veterans will never appeal. Its a win/win situation for the VA, a lose/lose situation for the Veteran. Welcome to the Department of Veterans Affairs where their purpose is to serve the Veteran and his widow. President Lincoln would turn over in his grave. They did the same thing to me, that is they denied my hearing loss even tho the audiologist said it was most likely related to military service, then it took me 7 years to appeal. Its the VA way.

Thank you for the response I know how you feel. I too have been at this for a long time. I hope this will finaly et my claim reopened and get a fresh look by todays standards. My claim has been closed since 84 and I have been trying to get it reopened since 07.

I am already at 80% so this is because of what I am going to be like as far as my hearing in say 10 years if I make it? With what my other disablities are I am already going to leave this earth early.

If you are at 80% the 10% will make no change in your Service Connected Net Rating.

I was denied and in same deal as you but I think that your specialists letter can help.

So my hypothetical question is if a large truck was honking to get out of way and you did not hear it would the VA connect your hypothetical death

Veterans deserve real choice for their health care.

Hey Pete, How have you been and thanks for all the help in the past from hadit! You are correct I used that same comment about the getting hit by a truck with the VA!!??

Anyhow with my hearing as bad as it is I would think I would get around 40% by the charts. Still would only kick me up ten% but it is the princible of the thing now.

Thanks, Stillhere (good to see Berta is still around too)
