just in case you have all wondered being military medical records are in one folder dental records another the (THIN RECORD) seems dental corps dont care that much or not that involved so for our new troops heading out into iraq and afgan (((be aware)))) make a stink when it comes to your dental records..... so they take a picture big FNdeal...... every thing that you have going in document MAKE COPIES and get the medical DR name in PRINT ... speaking from experience they will deny you everything dental ////my proof in fact is even when you de mobilize they ask the soldior you wanna stay on for a complete dental exam//// most troops say !!!NO WAY!!!! i wanna just get home then you have 180 days to do so at VA,,,, and guess what,,,, va dental sucks!! VA dental services only apply if your 100 percent service connected for dental care .. wow..

I want to see how someone secondarily connects TMJ to PTSD.

I have never seen it and would like to know more.

Service connection for TMJ syndrome secondary to PTSD is granted. “ from: http://www4.va.gov/vetapp99/files2/9916403.txt -------- “The evidence of record shows that the veteran's claims for PTSD and for TMJ syndrome secondary to left mandible fracture were received at the RO on March 4, 1997.” “Following appropriate VA specialist examinations, a rating decision of October 1997 granted service connection for PTSD, effective March 4, 1997, the date of receipt of his initial claim for that disability. Another rating decision, dated in May 1998, granted service connection for TMJ syndrome, effective March 4, 1997, the date of receipt of his initial claim for that disability. “ from: http://www4.va.gov/vetapp00/files2/0017144.txt In this case the vet claimed PTSD with TMJ as secondary in his initial claim-which was granted but the BVA decision denied him a better EED. There are more there -I dont have time to find them-and I think we have at least one hadit member here who gets TMJ as SC secondary to his PTSD.

There are also claims of tinnitus causing TMJ which could certainly be possible.

I would thnk that a dental opinion or a treating PTSD doc's opinion would be probative as to having TMJ SCed to PTSD.

Thank you soooo much! That Buffalo study is exactly what I have been looking for. Regarding the PTSD link, this all makes sense.

Additionally, bruxism/clenching can cause:

- Severe tooth destruction or damage (repaired by fillings, crowns, or extraction)

- Change of tooth alignment (angle, rotation)

- Lacerations of the tongue or inner lip/cheek

- Jaw pain

- Headaches

- Tinnitus

They can make custom night guards to help limit tooth damage, but if they are not thick enough, you'll chew right through them.

even being 100% does not guarantee quick dental service it takes months to get a dental appointment but the work they do is usually excellent the dentures they made me would be the 1000 dollar ones at the express dental places in the civilain world they do not make junk but the wait for an appintment can and usually takes months even if you are 100%
