Question

I can't figure this out! When I received copies of my SMR there wasn't a hospital record of my airbourne accident which was the only proof of it. The only record in my SMR was my exiting exam which I stated the accident in. But I still was awarded 30%, increased to 60% on right knee. NOW, I'm not complaining trust me! I was just wondering if the VA has any records that I don't? I'm about 100% sure they didn't award my claim just on my statement aone. I'm sure it's has to be that hospital record that I don't have. Has anybody been thru this before? I mean besides getting copies of my c:file, in which I'm going to do.

Thank's myround0 for the comeback!

I'm ging to the VA tomorrow. Do I have to make an appointment to review and get copies? The VA is in Phoenix, Az.

I have never gone to my RO (6 hour drive) but I have seen posted in the past that you do have to have an appointment to view because there has to be someone with you the whole time and they have to find where your file is and pull it off someones desk or their file cabinet.

How long ago did you send in a request for it? Mine took about 3 weeks before I got my copy.

I didn't request it yet. I was told to call and make an appointment. Not sure what the proto is. That was what I was told on a post the other day. Did you have to

fill out a request form and send it in to view the file?

It is best tomake an appointment request to the VARO in writing.

I would use the standard,"Statement in Support of Claim " form.

Here's a link to the form...............

The first time I asked for my SMR it was incomplete and the 2nd time only added very little. When I filed my statement in support of claim I stated that my SMR were incomplete and sited 2 incidents (1 being a broken hand) that were not listed in the records to support my claim they my SMR are incomplete. I was awarded 4 out of 5 claims in the end.

With Shreddergate, I advise all vets to get a copy yourself and submit it to the RO.I had items missing from mine according to the RO. After I found them I figured out they were not even looked at.

Hopefully the whole enchilada has changed.
