How Long At The Rating Board?

Rate this question

Franks

Question

Hello all, I am new to the site but have known about it for sometime. I was recently awarded Service connection for Bipolar disorder from the BVA and receive the award letter. However, there was not rating given. So after some research I realize that the next step in the process is for it to be sent back to the VARO in Tampa. So my questions are:

1. How long does it usually takes for the VA to come to a rating decision?

2. What are the typical rating given to someone with bipolar?

Thanks.

Those are really open ended questions. Your rating for BiPolar will depend on many factors, your GAF score being one of them, your mental health person's notes another.

As for how long it can take-im in Nebraska and our RO is small and on the ball. An initial claim, well thought out and documented, can take between 4-6 months to a year. An appeal, well, thats a whole new ball game that im playing right now. I'm at 5 months for my appeal and im pretty sure im not out of the first inning.

(I AM NOT A RATER- I work the claims BEFORE they are rated, annotating medical evidence in your records, VA and Legal documents,  and DA/DD forms- basically a paralegal/vso/etc except that I also evaluate your records based on Caluza and try to justify and schedule the exams that you go to based on whether or not your records have enough in them to warrant those)

An educated guess would be 30-90 days, from the date they receive it back from the BVA, probably closer to the 90 days, depending on their workload. Ratings will vary depending on how bad it affects your daily life. If you have direct deposit, watch your account as it usually shows up there, first, before you get the letter. jmo

Franks,

First off there is no VARO in Tampa, it is in St.Petersburg.

Since the BVA granted SC for Bipolar it will now be up to the VARO

to adjudicate both the percentage level and effective date and then

they will promulgate their decision, then it will go thru authorization

and notification by way of an official letter from the VARO.

If you have direct deposit set up the funds will most likely hit the bank account before

you'r official letter arrives.

My guess will be in two to six months.

Also, if you are SC'd at 30 percent or higher and have legal dependents you will need to fill out

sign and submit a form 21-686c, along with whatever documentation is requested in the form

Also, did BVA remand any issues ?

Here's a link to the info to set up direct deposit.

Yes, you are right. I sometime confuse Tampa for St. Petersburg. I will be filing out the form for direct deposit and mailing it in Monday. Yes, there were other claims that were remanded as well. Thanks for you assistance.
