Being Investigated! Help!

Question

Hi Everyone,

I have been a lurker on here for many years and all of the information here has help me so many times understand the VA system.

I am a 32yo female veteran. I was discharged in 2001 after being diagnosed with avascular necrosis of the right femoral head, and having a fibula graft surgery to help correct it and postpone a hip replacement.

When I got out, I had no idea what the VA even was. I went there and had my exam, didn't know what to expect or even what the benefits were. I got a rating back of 80%, which is not 90%. I also have individual unemployability, and have for a few years. All of this is due to serious chronic pain. Some days are worse than others...but it definitly inhibits me holding a job. Life and how I am feeling is so inconsistent, that working full time would be impossible. Due to the chronic pain...I have developed serious depression and anxiety issues. So that is the just of it without getting into serious detail.

Well, last year sometime...a friend opened up a fitness studio. I have a degree in health and wellness and she asked for my help, a meeting of the minds you could say. I taught her how to put together classes and went to some of the classes to help instruct...but limited in how much I participated. I only could help out for about a month, and then had to stop, due to the extra activity, seriously aggravating my condition.

Well, it is almost a year later, and my friend from the studio called me saying that an investigator was in asking questions about me! Asking if I have ever sold her my pain medication!!!!!! I am so embarrassed! It is something I have NEVER done! And continued to ask if I ever showed any pain, and why I was even there in the first place.

Today she called again, and I guess he went to see 2 of her clients. I have no idea what he asked them. They do know of me, but hopefully they filled him on that I was only there for a short time due to my condition.

Mind you, I was never paid. She is just a good friend and it was a way for me to stay sane and interact with adults, rather than hiding at home all the time. (it is in my medical records that my doctor would like me to engage in meaningful activity/volunteer ect outside the home, for sanity purposs).

Ok...so I know I have not done anything wrong, but I am still freaking out!!!! I have 3 small children, ages 1, 3, and 5 and am married. I stay home with the little ones of course and really keep to myself.

I am really not sure how to approach these accusations. I called the VA here in Maine, patient advocates and my rep, and in their offices they see no reports of investigation, but he definitely showed his badge, and I know he is from the government.

The fact that I am being followed and spyed on gives me the creeps!

Not to mention this is messing with me emotionally. I know that if i have done nothing wrong, then I shouldn't have to worry right, then why do I still feel so awful!

I feel I am a victim of something. I have a couple people that I know dont care for me....and have a weird feeling I may be a victim of slander, but who's to say.

Any advice?

Losing my mind a bit.

Warmly,

Sabrina

Don't take what I say as gospel.

But the government is paying you to be be sick as in don't do anything

You better ask for a mods help on this...... Your Money is now at risk because you are out and about doing all kinds of things.

Think about what they are paying you for, are you acting like you have this disability ?

I does not sound to me like the person asking the questions is from a law enforcement agency. It sounds more like someone

has hired a friend to ask questions. I do not think a professional would be investigating you in a manner that you would find out about it.

If it were me, I would file a complaint with the local police department. That fact that you have witnesses to someone asking questions

about any type of your activities might be a form of stalking. I am not an expert on the stalking laws. However, run by your local

police and see what they say.

Unless she was up doing the funky chicken, or teaching classes, I don't see why she should be under suspicion for helping her friend, especially if she is pushing her brain around instead of doing something physical.

Impersonating an investigative officer (government) is a felony. It could have been a PI, though-who do you know that may have a beef with you receiving benefits? Any ex's? Relatives with ax's to grind?

(I AM NOT A RATER- I work the claims BEFORE they are rated, annotating medical evidence in your records, VA and Legal documents,  and DA/DD forms- basically a paralegal/vso/etc except that I also evaluate your records based on Caluza and try to justify and schedule the exams that you go to based on whether or not your records have enough in them to warrant those)

RonP,

Being IU doesn't mean you cant do ANYTHING.

It means you have been adjudicated by VBA as not being able to hold

substantial gainful employment, due to SC'd conditions.

IU doesn't necessarily prevent someone from water/snow skiing, traveling, playing hop scotch, etc...

I was 'investigated' by Social Security a couple of years ago. The investigator showed up at a place I did some volunteer work occasionally and made some threatening remarks about if I was getting paid under the table, then they would be facing fines. All-in-all, very strange, as I was not receiving Social Security and I am fighting to get it now. This was before I was awarded 100% SC, and my wife was getting SSI, so they may have been checking monthly resources. Anyways, nothing ever happened because of the investigation.

This investigation sounds like Social Security and not the Veterans Affairs. Impossible to tell without knowing more.

In-law, outlaw, friend, ex-friend,etc someone knows what you are doing and where you are getting your income resources from. Also how you helped your friend with the business, and that you take pain medication too. Keep your financial business between you and husband only. Sounds like someone is jealous and turning you in for something??They think it not kosher!! Not me!!

The questions asked had to be told to someone...the evidence seems to be feed to someone. Keep all info private. Tell no one anything at all, what you get, where you get it, and if you help someone else, and don't tell any medication you take too! It is called PRIVATE for a reason!Just make sure this is a VA or SSA or Correction Officer and not just another scam artist here too.

Most of all if you find out from the investigators they are who they say they are and have valid evidence make sure you stay honest with your reply's. You have nothing to hide, if they are verified. I would ask them why they are investigating you...they won't tell you who called them with a complaint or concern, but might say one was made, especially when all the points turn to your situation.

I was told "someone" called in(VA) and said I was deceased some years back, and it stopped my benefits for a few months till I presented I WAS AND AM ALIVE! It was an anonyomous call they said...
