VA Math, Confusing, Right? Calculate Your Final Rating Percentage!
Tbird posted a blog entry in Tbirds Blog,
10 + 50 = 50 and other VA math mysteries explained.
VA Math It’s Not Your Mother’s Arithmetic
“VA Math” is the way that the VA computes combined impairment ratings for multiple conditions in a Veteran’s compensation benefits claim – and it requires that you unlearn real math. When a Veteran has multiple medical conditions that are service-connected and the Veterans Affairs rates each at a different percentage, it would seem that they should just add up your percentages to get to a total body impairment rating.-

VA will propose adding rare cancers to the presumed service-connected list as related to military environmental exposure

Post in I need some help, please
Tbird posted an answer to a question,
If you are looking for help taking care of him something like a home health aide that comes in during the week and helps with what he needs help with. For this I would contact your local VA hospital and ask to speak to the Social Worker, explain your situation, ask for help and how to proceed.
If you are looking for additional compensation in the form of Special Monthly Compensation check out this video from CCK Law I think it will give you a good idea what it is and how to go about applying for it.
For example there is a Special Monthly Compensation Rate for TBI try reading this article from The Veterans Law Blog on SMC T It is a subscription site but it allows you to view 3 articles for free a month.
Special Monthly Compensation (SMC)
I hope this helps.

Question

Someone asked yesterday and I cannot find their post.
This is the status we GSW members are getting:
"To GSW Chapter Presidents and Members:
Thanks to each of you who made a phone call or sent an email or asked a friend or family member to make a Congressional contact. Despite our efforts I am sorry to tell you the provision for the SBP/DIC offset is not included in the conference committee report of the National Defense Authorization Act. The limited funds went to other provisions. Space A is to go to the Comptroller General for review.
We have been told it was an unusal conference committee with only the House and Senate Committee Chairs and the ranking members making the final decision. This Conference Committee Report must still pass both the House and Senate and be signed by the President, so we will hear about the NDAA for some time to come; the chances are 99% our issue will not be included. Again, thanks to each of you who made an effort to help.
The Government Relations Committee of Gold Star Wives will be looking for a fresh approach on this issue and others on our priority list. Do you have a suggestion? We are looking for innovative ideas and will begin working again after the holiday season.
Thanks again for your efforts. The Governement Relations Committee wishes you a good holiday season and hope you will join us in 2012 as we work to bring our issues forward.
Sincerely,
/s/ Jamie Tomek
Jamie Tomek
Chair, Government Relations Committee
Gold Star Wives of America, Inc"
(Gold Star Wives aggressively fights for legislation for their members. One never knows when a spouse will become a Gold Star Wife.In that respect their work affects many future GSWs.This issue unfortunately has not been resolved favorably for GSW yet.
Perhaps the idea of a new approach could work wonders.)
