stillhere
To me being an old bird and of the opinion that I will defend my women till the end, but if I go first I would hope she would not just lay down and give up! Knowing my wife like I do I would think whoever did me in would have a handful on their hands! PTSD is not just for combat and women on the front lines for some reason this just screams wrong! But of course this world is changing with every tick of the clock. I would think ANY women that served in a combat unit period would have some kind of PTSD and destroy some of her motherly affection and devotion. Make her more like a man if you get my drift, and that I feel very sorry for. But again I am just and old bird just hate seeing the family life as we know it being almost shoved out of life! HadIt.com Elder Wings Posted March 1, 2012 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted March 1, 2012 x x x US History is replete with Women of Combat. I don't know why these contemporary "studies" disregard US Military woman's history. Example: US Military Nurses of Bataan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angels_of_Bataan *A Department of Veterans Affairs study released in April, 2002 found that the nurses lost, on average, 30% of their body weight during internment, and subsequently experienced a degree of service-connected disability "virtually the same as the male ex-POW's of the Pacific Theater." Maude C. Davison's body weight dropped from 156 lbs. to 80 lbs.
HadIt.com Elder john999 Posted March 1, 2012 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted March 1, 2012 One thing women are fighting for is right to have combat related jobs because that is how you get promoted in the service. The top aces in the military are usually combat veterans. It was the same thing for blacks in the WWII army. At first they could only be truck drivers etc. They could not make any rank. When they began to do direct combat duty they started to become equal in the eyes of the services. I don't think anyone expects women do be Navy Seals, but they can fly gunships or jets. If you get blown out of the sky it does not really matter about your sex.
Notorious Kelly
Just being over there makes you a target, so combat is kinda semantics. There's got to be significant stress on everyone.
HadIt.com Elder john999 Posted March 2, 2012 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted March 2, 2012 Right, men and women can be KIA'ed just by driving over an IED five miles from a so-called safe zone. I say if you can hear gunfire or explosions night and day then you know you must be at risk for death or injury.
