If you are on VA disablility and a active member of the National Guard, you can only get paid for one. So members usually take the higher of the two. Most members quit after there comitment is done if their VA comp is higher, unless they are close to getting 20 years for a age 60 retirement. You don't get any drill pay, however you get retirement points and "good years" which are important to a reserve retirement.
