Damn so that is indeed success.

I am not sure if it's true but I was told that retro only goes back 5 years?

Or does it go all the way back to the initial claim if the claim stays open like it has here?

If you can show the VA made an error when they denied a claim 50 years old then they have to pay the retro. That is what CUE is all about. The VA has many tricks to avoid paying the full amount but sometimes the vet wins. There are WW11 vets who get retro back to the day they left service. It has happened.

Damn well that is very nice, in a time of bad news here lately, I am glad that people are still winning cases and being given what they rightfully deserve.
