Question

I was medically discharged from the Marines for instability of left shoulder, and received a severance, but VA rated me for post op and left shoulder sprain. No where did the VA rate me for instability can they recoup my severence?

Yes they will recoup all of it before paying you disability. I was paid SSB when I got out and they recouped all of it before I was paid any disability.

I got out around the beginning of last year from the Army. Since the reason I was being discharged medically they paid me a nice severance and I didn't pay any money back because the injury was combat related. My benefits started a month after I got out and I haven't missed a check since. from my understanding if its combat related your severance is tax free.
